The idea of not allowing a gun within 1000 feet of an elected person would have the effect of forbidding a nextstore neighbor of an elected person from even having a gun in his own house, which would prevent him from his constitutional right to have a gun. Let's increase checks on gun sales, and increase the pentalties on those who use a gun in a crime to put them in jain longer. Of course anything to restrict guns will only prevent honest people from getting them. The criminal can always get them through other means.

I can rememeber not only the hate speech from the left about Bush, but the pictures of hanging him. No one had any problems with that. Beck hasn't made any hate speech against anyone, but pointed out who was a communist, and those working toward that end. He always says, to do their own checking, and not just take his word for it. He doesn't get anymore radical than some from the left do. There is a disagreement on policy, and if we are not able to openly disagree, we are in serious trouble. Obama himself spoke out and talked about knives and guns against the parties. He called the Republicans the enemy. That doesn't sound like President for all people. I don't know of anyone who disrespects the office of the Presidency, but there have been many who disrespect the president over the many decades of our Republic.

The web already is crawling with apologists and right wing talk radio is ranting full steam making excuses.

Let's see if Boehner or McConnell are willing to stand up and tell Limbaugh, Beck, Gingrich, Bachmann and Palin to discuss like civilized adults instead of hormonally challenged adolescents, and admit it when they go to far.

Any leaders on the right? Enough to call out those who keep trying to light the fuse? I will not believe the tone has changed at all unless leaders on all sides demonstrate this with their words and actions consistently going forward - not just when we have a tragic event.

I hope they will. This country has been filled with neurotic, paranoid dialog th past two years that has been shameful, and an embarassment on the world stage. Can they moderate their words and actions? I sure hope so.

You are right on manismind.....ty for your post. You forgot GLenn Beck, he is really disgusting. I am so embarrassed for our country on how we treat our president. The names they call him, still insisting he's not a citizen, etc. Sarah Palin is like nails on a chalkboard for me. She lies about what she has for breakfast. I just don't understand people jumping on these bandwagons. I have been so fearful of an assasination, I knew something was going to happen. Whether this guy did this because of hate speech or not, at least everyone is thinking now. Hate speech does not tell them to kill but it creates an enviroment of hate, and persons not stable believe everything they hear. Maybe the ones who lost their lives will not die in vain, maybe this country will finally start to love one another and be peaceful. It is a wish but it is possible.

I remember all of the heated hate speech from the right on the issue of the ground zero Mosque. The hate spewed from FOX news and the like lead to the desecration of Mosques. It lead to a cabbie being asked if he was a Muslim thus resulting in his stabbing. It also brought out a nut who threatened to have a Quran burning. This was done in the old south where heated hate talk would result in an innocent African American being hung to a tree. How dare these people such as Palin, Hanity, O'Reily, Rush and the like deny reality.I have yet to see a democrat show up at a political rally with a gun but those in the Tea Party are commonly seen with their 9mm Glocks at political rallies. Lets call it what it is and thats recognizing the extremists who spew changing government by any means necessary even by bullets. This disgusting attitude comes from Republicans and their supporters. Never have I heard of any one yelling out "You Lie" while a president was giving an address but this is whbat one Republican did. The Republicans with the use of the media created an atmosphere where people are at most fear. If the Goldman family sue O. J. Simpson even though the man was found innocent then I feel its just that the victims of this horrendous crime should be able to sue Palin and her host of fear mongers.
