Jim of WI has it wrong. A filibuster, done correctly, is a safeguard against a rushed decision or a massive push by a small group to make a controversial law. But there is absolutely no good reason for that process, or any other, to be secret.
Our constitution allows for a secret ballot, not a secret legislature. It's time both parties start practicing actual transparency, not just griping about the other side.

I heartily concur with the Jan 05 comments above of "Citizen of WI." This is not what I paid for with my subscription. And Michelle sets a horrible example, not at all practicing what she preaches, when pontificating about obesity!

Don't you get repulsed by the constant barrage of Obama photos that get rammed down our throats by USNEWS? I am tired of Bo and seeing Michelle's fat tush in the picture above.

Why do Democrats want debate? Because the left-wing media will give them extraordinary exposure as they try to browbeat their agenda through even when a majority of Americans are not in favor.

Democrats went nuts when the Republicans considered eliminating the filibuster during George W. Bush's presidency. Now suddenly they seem to love the idea. We shall see if the Democrats make an actual effort to do this, as the Republicans never did.

A minority of Americans stopping what a majority of Americans wants is non-democracy, and what causes revolutions and civil wars around the world.

A few Luddites can completely gum up the works. This is a democracy. We can't afford to let a couple wing-nuts control the whole government. Get rid of the filibuster.

Business needs to move along. The GOP has stalled long enough. Rules changes should include at a minimum:
No sceret fillibusters.
Any fillibuster should require the person requesting it be on the House or Senate floor as long as the filibuster is in effect. When that person leaves the floor, the vote can be taken.
