What Does the Generic Republican v. Democrat Ballot Say About Election 2010?

I'm not surprised your mind is boggling at the news. I question how old you are, because it seems your memory doesn't go back far enough to recall just how bad the Democrats were and why they got tossed in 1994.

Because as bad as the GOP is, the Democrats are worse.

The same cast of characters who lead the Democrats then, lead them now. Charlie Rangel, Barney Frank... they were all there, and were handed the reins again in 2006 because an ignorant electorate either forgot how bad they were, or were too young and ignorant of history to realize it.

You really need to wake up and get it through your own thick head - Obama and the Democrats are NOT working for you.

Neither will the Republicans.

They're two sides of the same coin, and THAT is why "change" never comes - what we need is a new coin.

Now, I'm kinda with you, but from a different angle. Why settle for the lesser evil? The GOP won't fix the country, they'll just kill it slower than the Democrats. Vote Democrat, kill the country faster, start over sooner.

I think the midterm statistics can be looked at one of two ways. Firstly, it could mean that we have a highly corrupting system in Washington which leads presidents astray, thereby resulting in voter rebuff. It could also mean the people are fickle and are just looking for hand-outs, and if the party in power won't give them any, they'll switch to the other one.

What is critical to remember here is that the Republican Party has been long-known to have abandoned its core conservative values for the purposes of political expediency. This possible flipping of the House, the Senate, or both is fundamentally meaningless unless it's due to the election of people "who are conservatives and incidentally they're also Republicans". The other thing which I feel is critical is that these newly-elected conservatives need to tell the Republican Party leadership to sit down, shut up, and get out of the way. If they're not willing to do that, then this whole midterm cycle will ultimately prove to be fairly meaningless as well.

I think the message of financial and political reform has generally permeated through our culture. The question in my mind is if it has done so sufficiently such that it is being acted on appropriately. Time will tell; it always does.

The "world" is watching America and the words about direction! It just has to be a more "informed" emotional interpretation for the voting masses. Otherwise many will wonder: where is moderation in the face of all? assuming that we see [the] all in the best pragmatic and positive way.

People cannot just be made pawns and I note: "when did the word politician become another word for worthless"? America is exemplary, but it is increasingly that of a challenge for what voters are fed with. Can they ever be made to reflect well on "there is time for everything"? There was an "old" world, but now many look-up to a "new" world. American voters must understand and make that possible. Surely it is why the world will be watching with interest!

Foresee grid-locking between Congressional and the Executive branches into the second half of Obama's term despite common wisdom that the GOP will overtake Democrats in both Houses this year. If correct, difficult to envision President Obama and the new Congress compromising on common domestic policy. Both are stuck-in-the-mud ideologues. Obama's symbolic achievements will be the HC and Financial Reform bills but for the remainder of his term it will be a contentious one. Meanwhile, the American voter will have some very hard choices to make in 2012 while the economy will continue to flounder well into 2012.

The Tea party is the new vanguard of Liberty; it must commandeer the GOP and return it to constitutional principles. Tea Party patriots believe in liberty under the Constitution not with sophistry, rationalization and tyranny of the majority, but as amended by the rules of Article Five where consensus comes together.

Congress tries to rationalize itself as omnipotent with kingly caprice. But the people are reading the Constitution and finding out that Congress has limited powers. And they have loudly said, "Hell no, we won't go" down the socialist utopian road that destroys incentive and kills the Golden Goose of prosperity.

The Constitution is the last bastion of freedom as leftists try to gain all authority over men; they assume they can make us do this, make us do that, control, regulate, tax, levy and bureaucratize. It is chains by any other name.

Look at the "fine examples" of politicians we have elected and are about to elect. Yuk. I feel like I am about to puke. Both parties are composed of self-centered ego-maniacs who want to get money for their wife's government-funded enterprise. Neither party is capable of doing anything right it seems.

Nothing will change unless we vote the trash out. If we don't vote for real change "we get what we got". When did the word politician become another word for worthless.

One look at a deficit graph over the last ten years speaks volumes. The enormous jump that occurred after the last election is unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. Obama's finger prints are all over it. You can naively think Obama is somehow implementing meaningful change, but the only change I see is in an exploded national debt, a busted economy and our children's future mortgaged. The townhalls last year should have given Democrats a clue. Astroturf, eh? Watch the astroturf at the polls in 2 months. I understand it is in season right now.

The Republicans leading in the polls? Really!!?? That is mind boggling to me! They had eight years to almost destroy the economic foundation of this country, and ignorant voters expect Democrats to turn things around in one year? Really? The American voter continues to irritate and infuriate me with their seeming lack of understanding about this country...President Obama has turned a disaster into at least a workable situation, and yet some of you "whiny" voters are crying about it not being fast enough. Why don't you ask some of the Republicans why they have blocked and continued to derail attempts the President is making. Get it through your thick heads that the Republicans do not want this president to succeed and will do anything possible to stop him. Even if it means hurting you and the rest of the country. Give the Democrats the same chance you gave the Republicans and see how things change. I can guarantee you if Obama gets eight years in office, with Democratic control, this country will be back the way it was in the late 90's when Democratic measures had balanced a buget and had the world in a much better situation than the idiotic disaster under the Bush debacle. You need to stop and think!!!!

When the Republicans won big in 1980 and 1994, they had a strong central or unifying figure (Reagan / Gingrich) and specific proposals (Reagan conservatism / Contract with America) for curing what seemed to ail the nation. In 2010, the Republicans have neither. Although I am a conservative, my worry is that if they win back Congress, the Republicans will screw things up again. (Their last go around as the majority party in Congress was not exactly impressive.) I'm all in favor of more Republican representation in Congress, but, sadly, I do not think they are ready for a return to power.

While I don't care much for either party, I'd rather not see a return to the over-the-top wasteful war-mongering that the repubs gave us for 8 years. That was definitely a large contributing factor to why we are where we are currently. Having said that, the demo's haven't done much of a job righting the ship too quickly. The emphasis needs to be on job creation and hopefully with the right-wing wackheads breathing down their necks we'll see a little more action in that area soon. But whatever happens, please don't let the Alaskan wackoqueen anywhere near the White House!
