Don't give in to the dems partisan bills. Just draw this out a few more months. You can do it!

Obama is right to call out the GOP form holding back the economy from recovering, especially considering the GOP cause this depression.
The GOP was more than happy to give away billions to the bankers and Wall Street brokerages. The Wall Street Bailout happened under George Bush, remember. Yet the Republicans will not help average Americans by jumpstarting this small business lending bill. Republicans are anti-business, anti-middleclass and against working people. The GOP are actively working against creating jobs in the USA, but their obstruction and 'do nothing' policy.
Tell your Congressman to pass the small business lending bill - to loosen up loans to create jobs.

I really do understand the conservative concern with cutting government spending, so I have to wonder why anyone who has this concern can ever vote for a conservative.
I have to wonder where all these commenters were when Bush and President Cheney were bankrupting the nation? When Bush Sr. Was bankrupting the nation? When Reagan was Bankrupting the nation? Pretty quiet then, huh. There is a big difference bertween a kid selling lemonade and the budget of a nation--this ought ot be obvious to an adult. When the government cuts taxes, how do you think they (Reagan, Bush, et al) make up the slack? THEY BORROW. Bush Jr. borrowed nearly 11 TRILLION dollars from COMMUNIST CHINA, just a Reagan had borrowed from communist Russia to pay for his cuts. Conservatives have always spoken brilliantly about the economy, but everytime they borrow and spend like crazy. Why doesn;t that bother any of the other commenters? Why are the other commenters sollowing the conservative words blindly, when the conservative actions are completely the opposite? Why are they blaming the magazine for reporting honestly?

What encourages me about reading all this is not the article itself, but the comments from fellow readers who know poor journalism when they see it. I've known for decades U.S. News is a left-wing mouthpiece, and this article proves that and also explains why this and similar "news" pubs are swirling in the toilet bowel. Hey.....reporter!! How about explaining the particulars of why Republicans are blocking this bill and what it would take to break the deadlock. Too difficult? Or they didn't teach you that in your journalism correspondence school.

Author should go back and study reporting ethics or take a course in economics. Ask the question: What income bracket creates jobs and what happens if you take more money out of their pocket?
Regarding the deficit, even my 11 year old daughter knows that if she lowers her lemonade stand price she can actually sell more with greater net revenues if there is little demand at existing prices. Think about this and the ramifications of increasing the costs on higher income wage earners. It will actually result in less tax receipts by the government as the breaks are applied to their business. Real stimulas comes from tax cuts not tax increases, especially on those providing the jobs.

MOST small businesses have already failed...ride down any major commercial road and see how many empty store fronts are available or have "going out of business" signs.
Credit is dry or available at "usary" rates ( Usary is a nice term for SLAVERY! )
TAX incentives to hire when there's NO BUSINESS???
What's the point....FOOLS?
This unholy "Trilogy" of "President", House and Senate have driven the nails into the USA economic coffin.
This lip-service by this "President" is appalling as the Obama-Pelosi-Reid "Agends" have done everything possible to destroy American small business without even bothering to read the Bills they were signing into law.
VOTE in November and hold those you elect ACCOUNTABLE !
America MUST restore Honor...or we are doomed.

this is the 2nd article i've read on this subject. neither reporter has bothered to ask why republicans are not supporting a "pro business" bill. maybe, as eddo suggests, there are elements in the bill that republicans can't support. but the real problem is why a reporter has not REPORTED both sides, giving a deeper understanding of the the issue.

Hubert, you could take the time to look back at the voting record of that legislation to see how it was passed. You will likely find that the legislation passed with votes from both parties.
It seems like you are instead content to pretend you don't know what Republicans are doing right now. Since people like you are content to allow them to block any legislation they don't feel compelled to act in the interest of the country overall. They only have to represent the republican party, not the country, in spite of their oath of office.
Lawrenceof OK6:10PM August 30, 2010
If Republicans are pro-business, as the Democrats have argued for years, why are they blocking the legislation. In my opinion, there may be items in the bill that are actually anti-business, hence the Republican resistance to passing it.

blame, blame, blame. Try reporting the whole story.
