There are many people who come to this country with a legal visa but do not return to their country of origin after their visas have expired. What are we doing about that? We also have to enforce the law not to hire illegal immigrants.

The court system regularly release the illegal immigrants and if not, they often just sit in our jails at our expense.

After endless trials Border protection, we will still be where we are. A great influx of non-documented individuals and an endless supply of illegal drugs. In a few more years our borders will resemble that of the middle East.. This happens anyplace on Earth....Haves on one side and haves not on the other side. We need to look at the causes of these problems and not just the results.

I like fining the companies, but where is the fence. I was down on the border in 2000 and it was a joke for people to cross that 15 foot ditch. Nobody stopped them.

I also think a $100 bonus to any individual who catches one and turns them over to authorities, i.e. police, border patrol FBI and so on. I know of several in good old Peoria, Il.

The immigration problem is very simple..

The Democrats want their vote and the Republicans want cheap labor.

They are in "bed together" on this issue.

The solution is simple, mandate the first violation of any company that hires an illegal to be fined $1,000 per person, the second violation is a fine of $5,000 per person, and the third violation would be loosing their business license.

If we removed the 20 million illegal people, our unemployment rate would drop, our unemployment benfits would decrease, and we would be on our way to balancing the budget.

Ralph of Az for Prez!

I'm with you 100%. When will the men of this country stand up to these slime balls in office?

They should all be taken out and hanged on the White House lawn immediately if not sooner! I am fed up with Chuckie and Chris Dodd, Obama, Charlie Rangel, Pelosi, Reid, Al Sharpton, Maxine Water's.

If the average citizen had done what these maggots have done, they would have been put in prison! Including little Tim Gietiner who forgot to pay his taxes.

We don't need more vote buying money thrown at the Border situation, we need some men with balls to hang these cheap politicians for not doing their job!

Edwin of AZ 12:23PM August 10, 2010

We have the laws we have the personnel. Money won't help the situation. What is needed is the enforcement of the laws which make it illegal to hire and alien. If you check the following Website. You will see that the US Chamber of Commerece is against this. So where do you think the pressure comes to set extremely lieniant policy for the Agencies to follow. From your congress who in my opinion is passing appropriations to set up a smokescreen for tasset non- compliance

This is just another sad effort by the Senate to act like they're serious about border enforcement. Sad to say, but both the Democrats and Republicans have been doing things like this for years. We have somewhere around 20,000 Border Patrol agents when just a few years ago we had under 5,000. The simple first step is to pass a law making it mandatory to verify all Social Security numbers with a government issued identification (such as driver license or passport) first of all new employees and then of everyone who is employed. Both parties have avoided this for their own reasons. Most developed countries of the world have better regulations than the U.S.
