Do we call supporters of the 1st Amendment "talk loving ilk" or "riot loving ilk"?

No.

At some point, as we communicate in a manner protected by the 1st Amendment, substitute - any time you discuss it - 1st Amendment when you want to talk about the 2nd Amendment. Congress shall make no law/the right of the people...shall not be infringed - they are pretty clear cases of Constitutional law and precedent that establish rights for all Citizens of this Country.

In their support (or lack of attack on) for DISCLOSE the NRA has shocked and disappointed many NRA members. The reason the 1st Amendment reads "Congress shall make no law" regarding speech is pretty clear and as with America United so was the Supreme Court - the Government should not be the arbitrator of speech. The basic tenant of "free speech" is more of it, not less.

To say the AARP does not support political positions overlooks the Obamacare debate. To think that the NRA will remain exempted is immature at best. In the 1950s and 1960s the NAACP had it's free speech/assembly rights attacked by states who wanted to suppress their ability to organize and communicate. Suppression of speech is totalitarian in nature and anathema to any free people. History repeats.

It's the Democrats who constantly seek to suppress speech - they who made 'the deal' - but keep in mind the NRA has been very clear that they thought it would pass even without a deal so why make it? (there is an answer to that question).

As for "gun loving ilk" most gun owners are responsible, safe and very passionate about firearms. Studies show that as more people in an area have access to firearms crime goes down - even though those lawfully possessing firearms will be subject to imprisonment as well as criminal and civil legal action should they use them in self defense. Try and purchase a firearm - depending on the State you are in it's nearly impossible or very difficult. In all States legal purchase has many strings attached.

By posting on this site did you need permission to post, to prove you are a citizen with a clean legal record, subject yourself to a background check, sign paperwork attesting to your fitness and have that paperwork retained by a party subject to search? Are you currently in jail awaiting prosecution for your use of your 1st Amendment rights, worried that you may lose your home and property?

No.

So every time you think about the 2nd Amendment do everyone a favor and substitute the 1st and if you choose to own a firearm - or not - don't infringe others rights to do the same.

The NRA is special. Special deserves special rules. Democrats understand special rules for special organizations, that is why they won. If you do not understand you are not special and should obey the rules. You should not complain about obeying the rules, because you are not special and you have no place to complain.

you can yell FIRE in a theater. Go try it. People will probably laugh at you and nothing will happen. If someone gets mad you may get a slap on the hand. It is not polite to yell Fire in a theater. You may pay a penalty for doing so, but you can do it. You can rob a bank also. you don't have the right to do it, but you can do it. You can murder someone. You don't have the right to do, but you can do it. Why don't you yell fire in a theater, or murder someone, or rob a bank? Is it because there is a penalty?

Probably not. So why don't you do it? THink about it. and see if you can stretch your neurons and figure it out. Is it common sense???...no way.

Man using their neurons....thought of this idea of the Bill of Rights. Some in signers of the Constitution did not want to sign the Constitution without the Bill of rights. Why? They were afraid the Government would have too much power. The Bill of rights is for one purpose and one purpose only to LIMIT the power of Government. You like Government having more control over your life, than make sure the Bill of Rights gets destroyed. THE NRA is helping destroy the Bill of Rights.

IF you want Government to have more power, think of this SCARY thought. The government you like now....may change in the future. YOU give the Government more power Because it has Democrats in power, that you like. Ha HA...the joke is on you.

I guarantee you an administration you hate will gain power sometime. YOU WILL BE VERY SORRY YOU GAVE GOVERNMENT THAT POWER. Once government has the power....it does not give it up. YOU JUST GAVE THE OTHER PARTY A WONDERFUL GIFT. I am sure the Republicans are jumping up and down with glee behind closed doors.

Politicians and citizens can NOT think 10 minutes pass their next meal. Good Luck! This 18 months has been great fun to watch. Little lemming running to the cliff... Hungry Hungry Caterpillar...or is that Hungry Hungry Government?

O.K. First, let me state the facts: I have always voted Democrat. I am over fifty years of age and my dad was a cop for 25 years. My question: why in the hell are the democrats (who are still a majority in congress) bending over backwards AGAIN to the demands of the NRA and their gun loving ilk? Pleeeeze, come on, show some strength, have a spine - just say 'NO'!!!

I know, I know - the NRA is a huge organization with lots of followers who will do anything to co-opt the political process.

This has to stop. If not now, when?

I will maintain to my dying day that first amendment and second amendment rights are not absolute. Such examples are crying "Fire!" in a crowded theatre or carrying a loaded gun into a school are stuff which extremist positions are made. Legislation must be governed by common sense.

All money in politics should be made illegal. No campaign contributions from any private source. Period. Campaign contributions always make politicians corrupt. There is no way to avoid it.

Let campaigns be financed by government funds available to candidates. And the amount of these funds should be very limited.

I'm tired of politicians buying votes. And, lobby groups buying votes from politicians. We, in America, think our nation is free from corruption. We are fools, as our present political system runs on money - campaign contributions to buy political favors.
