WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) — Congressman John Boozman said during a stop in West Memphis he believes he is "awful close" to being able to win the Republican U.S. Senate nomination outright.

Boozman spent Monday flying around the state trying to build support for his Senate bid in Tuesday's election. Most polls show Boozman leading among the eight Republicans seeking the Senate seat, but it is possible he could face a runoff with state Sen. Gilbert Baker or former state Sen. Jim Holt.

Boozman, who also had stops planned in El Dorado and Texarkana, said he is trying to build support among conservatives in traditionally Democratic parts of the state.
