Yesterday there was a glimpse of hope in the eyes of conservatives! Could it be that the voters had 10 months of reality checks and they don't like ythe directin Obama is taking us? His socialistic theories on how to regulate how things are done are doomed to failure! They undermine the premise that 'hard work' will gain you success! He wants to deliver 'success' like we dole out free meals to those that don't want to 'work' for their fair share!

I'm sorry to disagree with Mr. Steele, but people are not even looking back to consider the Republican Party. The Majority of us have had more than enough of incompetence, greed, and unethical behavior. I must agree with Rich of CO, both parties are just two sides of a bad penny and NOTHING will change until we rid ourselves of most of these incompetent old farts who are just bideing their time to retire at the expense of the taxpayer. Both parties have proven to be useless, unethical, incompetent and disloyal to their constituents. The Republican Party is not only the party of NO but consistently has utilize the stratey of "Distortion, distraction and deception." Our current bunch of useless pols have created a Congress by the Corporation and in the interest of Corporations and Special Interest groups. Come next election we need to be more selective in who we vote for and demand term limits. I, for one, am tired of self-centered and self-interest among our old and cantankerous politicians. We need younger, ethical individuals with integrity---something our politicians have lost.

The parties are like two sides of the same bad penny. Nothing will change until we change the coin itself.

It's true, they've taken a second look, and found little to support.
I don't envy Steele, he's got nothing to work with.

This includes BOTH parties. I now consider myself a "Tea-Party" Independant like many Americans as shown by Mr Hoffman's popularity. Business as usual in Washington DC includes corruption and "deal-making" and "compromise" that ignores the JOB they were elected to perform...the business AND best interest of the American People.
WE DEMAND BETTER...and it is far time WE explained this fact to Washington and OUR local officials as well. OUR VOTES can and will do this best.
Democrat OR Republican doesn't really matter anymore...DO YOUR ELECTED JOB....OR...YOU will be thrown to the streets!
We're tired of the BS.
WE will prove it with our money and VOTES!.

I am responding to the issue, now in part moot, that just because a local Republican organization nominates a certain individual as a candidate for public office the RNC must necessarily put its stamp of approval on said candidate. This is a fallacy. It is one participated in by both you and Mr. Gingrich, to name two. I have personally witnessed the effective takeover of a local caucus by a special interest group. When I was involved in a newly created district in North Dakota the Republican "regulars" were overwhelmed by an influx of members of the teachers' union. These people had always participated as Democrats in prior years. Now they freely came in - in great numbers, as an organized group - and placed their own people in charge of the Party and nominated their own candidates for office. This gives rise to reasonable suspicion that there is something wrong when the Republican nominee outscores the Democrat with ACORN. It smacks of something like a fifth column. So I believe the cure for this is to write a basic Republican Platform. It need not be terribly narrow, but it should incorporate the following: cutting spending and returning to fiscal responsibility; working to stop the health care takeover; fighting the insanity of Cap and Trade bills; restoring and defending our national borders; supporting Congressman Dale's immigration/citizenship bill; reducing the role of international bodies in influencing our internal policies; establishing English as our only official language; supporting education reforms such as vouchers and home schooling; reinforcing states' rights and responsibilities. There may well be other important planks, but this is a start. Candidates who do not sign on to this platform ought not to be funded by the RNC.
