Norm,
I noticed you did not mention Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan. Those Presidencies would have destroyed your theory. Besides George W's presidency was not nearly as bad as you say and the Obama presidency is bringing more pain than gain. If this is the change that he promised then we should start a new slogan, "Change We Can Do Without."

Senator Specter has not been a Republican for 43 years. He became a Republican about 28-30 years ago. He was a Democrat before. He changes party when it helps him win. For Specter to leave the Republicans is a minor thing. Republicans are not in crisis because he left. They are in crisis because they betrayed their base and the base knows it.

I think the people who are really in crisis mode are those who publish crappy little magazines and newspapers. Bye, bye!

Once again, partisianship plays a bigger role than the needs of American people. Dems vs. Reps and the big money that fuels this game so that fewer still can stay where they have been put by claiming to be something they are not.
Wew!
We must get engaged/educated on issues that are relevent to our future. BJs, same sex marriage, democracy in the middle east nor gun control have anything to do with what we face as a country trying to right itself after the disaster of GW and company.
Health care costs, SSecurity, education costs and the desire to do what is right/honest are the issues that warrant the time and resources. Americans, we must demand the truth. We must give the truth and feed it to our children. We must stop empowering these idiots by giving them attention unless it covers the issues that mean anything.
We got rid of the Rove mentality in the White House, lets not take it to the streets. The damage is done. Lets move forward with meaning.

First, the author should not write "Dems and Republicans."
They should match: "Dems and Reps" or "democrats and Republicans."
Specter was Democrat before he became a Republican, he has just returned to his roots as the Republican Party becomes even more extreme.
Republicans are in a do or die situation, their fate is up to them.
They seem to be committing suicide.
Time for a new party/

EVERYONE SEEMS TO NOT REALIZE THE DEMOGRAPHIC TIME BOMB THAT WILL DRIVE THE GOP INTO IRRELAVANCY. ABOUT 47% OF THE GOP'S VOTING BASE ARE PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 65 AND ARE DYING AT ABOUT 10,000 A DAY, BY 2012 DEMOCRATS WILL OUTNUMBER REPUBLICANS BY 3 TOO 1 ON A NATIONAL LEVEL AND 4 TOO 1 AT SOME LOCAL AND REGIONAL VOTING DISTRICTS. SOMETHING AKIN TO LIKE WHAT'S HAPPENING TOO RUSSIA RIGHT NOW. ALSO WITH FAMILY'S HAVING FEWER CHILDREN AND ABORTION, IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD AS FAR AS REPLENISHING THE STOCKS.THE DEMOCRATS ARE MADE UP ALSO OF IMMIGRANTS WITH HIGH BIRTHRATES THAT DO NOT BELIEVE IN ABORTION AT ALL. WE MUST NOT FORGET THE GRAND CANYON OF CULTURAL DIVIDE THAT WAS DRAMATIZED BY HOW THE DEMOCRATS USED THE INTERNET DURING THE ELECTION AND HOW THEY ARE STILL USING IT, THE GOP WAS CLUELESS ABOUT THIS AND STILL ARE. THEY ARE THE GERIATRIC PARTY AND THIS IS THEIR MEA CULPA.

Sen. Specter's self motivated political career salvage attempt is contemptable. This has only to do with his inability to retain his seat as a Republican. Career before office and duty, yeah that's a great message to send to any constituent right or left. What ever became of public interest over self interest?

What a detriment the past President George W. Bush is. He couldn't help the party during the last elections because he was like the plague. Then the Republicans have McCain running with Sarah Palin for the highest office in the nation. McCain and his staff chose Palin because she was a female. That's about all she had to their benefit. She showed not to be very bright with questionable ethnics. Now the party wants to keep pushing Palin as a major player for them. No wonder the Republicans are where they are now. Is the pool of party members so poor that you have to resort to someone who has questionable character.
