Sen. Gillibrand is a good choice. She has my backing as a former New Yorker and a pro gun rights advocate. Law abiding citizens have a right to be able to defend themselves and Senator Gillibrand understands that right well.

Studies have shown that where law abiding citizens are allowed to defend themselves, crime has gone down.

I really don't care about the appt. I'm just writing to comment about the world we live in.

I read some Dems. arn't happy with the appt. It seems to me in this day & age, no matter who the Gov. picked it would still piss someone off. So to all you folks who don't agree with the Appt.Get a life and get over It.

Representative Gillibrand is a very good issues oriented replacement for Hilary Clinton. She has separate opinions of each issue aqnd is not beholden to either the left or the right. A brave choice by the Governor.

The FINE people of New York are now represented and protected by a REAL NEW YORKER. A refreshing change for those of us who believe in that Gov't. should represent and protect everyone, even those FEW who have LOST their way!

Since I can find no one who tell me anything that Hillary did for NY STATE, maybe it will not be difficult to replace her. It is about time that the citizens of the state of New York get a citizen of the state to represent them. Hillary is a crafty politician with allegiance to no one but Hillary, thanks for nothing and good-bye. Its about time we have a senator who realizes there are people and businesses north of White Plains. Mr Shumer and Ms Clinton were so close to Wall St and the big banks that they fed the fires of the current economic challenges. Wake up America, you voted for change in the White House but are still sending mediocre politicians who know nothing about fiscal responsibility, ethics, business and hard work to Washington like Nancy Peloci.

After observing the primaries and the general election, I am beginning to believe this faction of the Democratic Party hates women (period).

Outrageously inconceivable that Hilary Clinton could be replaced by a pro-gun choice. What an insult to Carolyn McCarthy and all the other victims of reckless gunmen. There is no way that anyone I know would vote to reelect anyone who would have made such a poor decision.

Herbert Rothgarber of NY 11:44AM January 24, 2009

The Democratic Party should take a lesson from us Republicans -- don't let your so-called "progressive" base hijack your party like how we let the Neocons hijack ours. Your power will be more moderated and could last longer. Of coarse, as a Republican, I think it would be most beneficial to our cause if the extreme left were to take over the Democrats! Joking aside, we do need some moderation in this country after eight years of Cheney-Rove tactics, big government, fiscal irresponsibility, and militant foreign policy idealism on the part of the Neocons. We don't need "progressive" excess today...
