How about the election of Cesar and Pompey as consuls of Rome?

In this we learn that ordinary men lead extraordinary men and women. Our nation is desperately seeking another Washington/Roosevelt/Lincoln/Truman/Kennedy. This shows us that those at the top could learn so much from those of us at the bottom. We are truly our brother's keeper. Washington was a wise man. The parties have tainted our democracy and permanent alliances with European powers has caused us a great many problems. We have made the mistake of thinking we know what is best for people we don't live with and cannot understand. We are now part of a truly global community and should think about the precedents we set, as Washington did. We are not the nation on the hill, just the neighbor with a hill in their yard.
