Bush also is aiming for some wins at home, but White House strategists estimate that he will have only about six months before time runs out. About July 4, the strategists predict, Congress will adjourn for the campaign season as the legislators, the news media, and the public focus on choosing Bush's successor and the battle for control of the House and Senate. In the meantime, Bush will press Congress for action on several fronts, from strengthening the housing market to getting his No Child Left Behind education law renewed and additional funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush also promises to continue his successful hardball strategy of vetoing any Democratic bills he finds unacceptable.
