Social Security surprise

I was suprised when I applied for social Security to start when I turned 62 in March that my income from wages/salary would be limited to $11,000. This doesn't seem fair to me. I was planning of working part time. Is there a way around this?

working more when you're up for retirement?

why work more when you are eligible to retire? First that only means you didn't plan ahead when you were young or claiming ignorance. Second, delaying your retirement and not enjoying your life means you might not be able to get the chance to draw from your retirement account and unfortunately lose it forever. take for example social security, a lot of the so called expert tells you to delay from 62 to 67 but that means it will take 20 years for the 67 retiree to catch up with the 62 retiree in terms of money collected. so, don't delay and give it away coz. you may not live 20 years after 62 years old. It is not in your best interest. Tell this to everyone you know....

Recession can be a non issue for retirement

Depending on time in service and grade at retirement, CSRS employees can get a pretty good retirement income, regardless of diminished portfolio values. I am retiring in Jan at age 55. The net pay difference between my working and not working is about $1000 per month. The question for me was - do I love my job enough to continue with a long commute to a stressful job for that $1000 per month. I planned for my retirement so the recession is a non-issue.

Save more, spend less. You pay people to write this crap. I guess if I was born yesterday this would be useful.

Tax Code "from" or "for" Home Based Business

Yes, Congress has written a great tax code for home based businesses - great for them. Expenses that the IRS would not bat an eye at for a business located in a separate location get the eagle eye for home based businesses. And a corporate form of business is treated far better than the usual sole proprietorship or partnership/LLC business entities. Corporations can deduct medical and dental insurance before social security tax. Not so for other entities. Every employee in the corporation can expense a Wall Street Journal subscription without anyone questioning if that is necessary. Try that at home.

Recession Good For Retirement!!!

Sometimes recession can be good for retirement as falling prices may allow for investments in real estate for example. A responsible person with good credit can buy up homes in a depressed market as rental property, resale property, resort property or simply something to pass to their heirs. At this point in time, those who have survived the downturn may wish to sample the opportunities provided by the next administration. America will be rebuild mode for at least the next 8 years with bargains galore for the folks who save and pay their bills. Recession is great for fixed income retirees and time to recoup losses!!!
