TN golf retirement

Tellico Village in Loudon and Monroe Counties TN (south of Knoxville) offer golf with three course and the Tellico Lake for great boating and fishing. Although not an age-restricted community, it has self-selected that way -- 70% or so are over 55 +. The many activities and a sense of community made it attractive for us, and good golf weather for MOST of the year is a plus. Knoxville has an amazing array of cultural and sports activities and the Great Smoky Mountains are nearby.

There are other golf and lake communities in the area for shopping around...

golfer's paradise

When it comes to retirement and golf they go hand in hand, says my boyfriend 47, Mesa,AZ Hopefully there will be new golf courses to play by the time he retires. He loves to play new courses and wonders about the economic impact. And what it will do to the new golf course plans? For Arizona and the surrounding States.

Affordable Golf and Retirement

Having taken a hit like most of us on retirement savings, I would like to know if there is a list out there of the "Ten Best Places to Retire on a Budget for Golfers. I have received literature from the Cliff's Communities, but alas, its pricey. I am an avid golfer and want to retire in the western US, preferably in a desert area, but not too crowded. Any ideas out there?

Cliffs - South Carolina & Asheville, NC

I am a golfer and moved to the Cliffs Communities in South Carolina -- located north of Greenville, SC. There are 7 Cliffs developments in the area and each has a good to great golf course. As a golf member of the Cliffs, you can play all of them. Also, Tiger Woods first US golf course is being developed here.

The climate has 4 seasons (summer is hot, but not as hot as the coast, and winter is mild except perhaps in Asheville). The developments are all in the Blue Ridge mountains or in the foothills, and the scenery is spectacular. Several of the developments are on Lake Keowee -- one of the most beautiful lakes in the US.

All in all, a great place to retire -- especially for golfers.

You left off Bend OREGON

There are a boatload of courses in Bend Oregon and central oregon. Its dry sunny climate and the backdrop of the cascade mountains make it a wonderful town to live in if you like golfing, skiing and fishing. And biking

Golf in SC

Kiawah

My dad lives on Kiawah Island, SC, and I have to say that there is no better place for golfers. I grew up very near Lemont, and although it has some nice courses it is a pale comparison to Kiawah. With 4 unbelievable public courses, including the 5-star Ocean Course, 2 private courses, and many other courses nearby, like Seabrook's 2 private courses and all the courses near Charleston. Not to mention the 10-mile beach and the breathtaking landscape. If you can afford it, I can think of no better place
