Social Security Debit Cards: 7 Things You Need to Know

Stimulus Check stolen by Direct Express

I'm still going round and round with Direct Express regarding my stimulus check that was deposited by the government in May and taken out four days later which wasn't by me and couldn't possible be by anyone else since I have the card on me at all times and the pin numer is not written down because I memorized it. If you don't think this is an inside job, who do you contact either way. They wrote me an e-mail that they had to try and call me several times to get some additional information especially of which was there a mistake in my phone number. I wrote back to Diane, Customer Care Assistant. The gentlemen who answered the phone said he had never heard of her and would write her an e-mail that we were trying to get ahold of her since she said we could call her back instead. But to no avail many days and we still can't get ahold of her.

If this is embezzeling on their side, I think someone should get back on this matter right away. The people that answer the phone all keep saying it's still in investigation.

I would surely like to hear back from you on this matter. This card has Comerica's name on it and they said they didn't stand behind Direct Express Card because it wasn't there card.

I'm begging you to help me in this matter. I can be reached at (231)420-9577 or (231)420-3095.

Thank you,

Screwed Like the man with the law degree

My stimulus check was deposited into my account in May and then taken out of my account four days later. I too believe there is an employee there embezzeling. I filled out the paperwork they sent me, sent it back and lately have been calling after receiving their phone number from the Department of Treasury since you can't talk with anyone in person there. Now I call three times of week and they keep giving me the same story. (We are still investigating this). I sure would like to know who to contact regarding this safe, secure FDIC debit Card and approved by the Department of Treasury. I don't believe they will ever give me my $250.00. Our government should wake up regarding this. Even a reporter here in Oceana County heard that many people are having the same problem with money taken by them.

Is there anyone :Human" to speak to?

I just received my direct express card. I have 1 problem, The password I choose for online services does not work. I've tried all passwords that I use and nothing. My user name works. So the problem is there is absolutely NO ONE to speak with every number is automated. You can get help online if you forget your user name but, no help if you forgot your password. Can anyone help me with this? Is there another number besides 888-741-1115 or 877-212-9991?

Safer?

Hello,

I just read your article as well as the article in Sheriff Magazine (the October '09 Crime Prevention issue) extolling the Direct Express Card. I began receiving my SS & disability benefits through the card in August '09.

Last night (09/30/09) at approximately 11:00 pm, I checked my account online and saw that my disability benefits had been credited - my balance was a whopping $143.29 including the $115.00 disability deposit. This morning (10/01/09) between 10 & 11 am, my card was denied at two different locations. I immediately checked my balance online. My balance was $7.42. Fourteen (14) UNAUTHORIZED transactions were made on my account within a 24 hour period.

I immediately phoned Direct Express & the "customer support" person was no help. She informed me there was nothing she could do an that there were no supervisors to help me. After about seven hours & 20 odd phone calls I discovered information that leads me to strongly suspect that the fraudulent transactions were made by a person who works at Direct Express.

I am not a person who comes to unfounded conclusions; I was graduated from UCLA with College Honors and I have a law degree. Please let me know if you have had any other reports of theft from a Direct Express account.

P.S. Are the "customer support" personnel at Direct Express bonded?

Thank you,

Shirley

Lost money

On September 3,2009 I went to an ATM machine at 1300 N. Broad St. Phila.,Pa. to withdraw $400.00 of my Social Security funds using my DIRECT EXPRESS CARD. The money came out and before I could grab it the machine snatched it back in and recorded it as being withdrawn from my account. I have contacted the operator of the machine CardTronics, they told me to contact my bank which I don't have. I cannot get a human responce from Direct Express. I have to have my bank (which I don't have) file a form E or EFT in order to get my money from CardTronics I cannot get anyone to help me.

Why did the Treasury Department issue cards that have phone numbers that will not connect to a person for assistance?

Has anyone else ever had this experience with an ATM machine.

The Direct Express Card Is Very Convienent

I was reading over some of the entries and was amazed to find that individuals who are currently utilizing the card are having so many difficulties. Two months ago I was perusing the SSA website regarding work and how it affects your monthly entitlement, when I came across the Direct Express card. After clicking on the hyperlink and being directed to their site, I was able to request a card in about 10 minutes. Shortly thereafter, approximately two weeks later, my card was sent via USPS and I then set up my account information online at usdirectexpress.com. The monetary allotment is deposited on my card on the 3rd of the month [in July it was on the 2nd] and I am able to now pay bills online, as well as keep up with my balance, without paying the exuberant charges other pre-paid debit card companies charge [GreenDot.com].

If anyone is having trouble with the card, I would suggest contacting Comerica Bank's Direct Express Customer Service Division.

If you want to sign up for the direct deposit service call 1-877-212-9991.

If you already have the card and are having difficulties call 1-888-741-1115.

Customer Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and handles calls related to:

— Reporting lost or stolen cards

— Balance inquiries

— PIN changes

— Transaction history requests

— Registering a complaint about a card issue

— Questions about card usage

— Questions about international card usage

Like I previously said, it is convenient and user -friendly. If you receive benefits through the SSA, you should really consider this safe way to receive your benefits. And no, I do not work for the SSA or Comerica... just think it's a good deal. [God I wish I did though... I can't wait to start working again.]
