Freezen

royalfuzziness of IL too funny. I just asked my wife the same question as she wanted to move to Montana and get a place with a lake view. I told her why would I want to do that as it's froze over a good part of the year.

Vancouver WA

I checked out Vancouver WA. It's a bedroom community for Portland. Highways and busy roads everywhere. Whatever I wanted, I had to go on a freeway to get it. Everywhere I looked for houses there was traffic noise. Oh, and did I mention it rains ALL the time?

low real estate tax

If you are a senior over 65 south carolina is the place.

My property tax for 2008 was 1861.40, for a 1600 sq ft

new home on 3/4 acre. After deductions, it was reduced

to 507.28. We have the four seasons and no snow that

make it even more attractive. Consider the Greenville-

Spartanburg area, we have plenty of everything!

Silver City New Mexico

The good: Silver City is about 6000 feet elevation. Popluation is some where between 15000 and 20,000. Fabulous weather. Normal winter day is 50-70 degrees with nights 15-38(mostly on the higher end). Currenly in the high 20's. Summers 75-103 (mostly in the 80s). When I first came to Silver City (from San Fernando Valley, LA CA) it was Summer (very hot that summer) and it felt wonderful. Drove past one of our banks at the temp registered 103. I had the window down and the AC off. That can't be 103! It feels like the 80's. I then turned the corner to find another bank with the same 103 reading. Because the humidity is so dry you don't feel the highs and lows of the temperature. We do get a little snow probably less than 2 feet per year and it usually melts off by noon time. So far this year its been less than a foot. We live in an 1800+ square foot home very large 2 car garage, rental SW 2bd 2 bath about 850 sf that has a 2 car car port and a large 15 X 35 RV port on 4.5 acres and pay under $600 a year. Worth about $250K. We are about 1/5 the property taxes of most cities in TX, AZ, CA. Deer and wildlife abound. We have a great Teachers College (Western). A great hospital (Gila Regional). There is a Wal-Mart Super Center. Housing prices are very reasonable. $150-350K gets you a nice house. Employment is mainly tied to the Copper Mines here.

The bad unemployment is rising. Currently the mines are shut down due to the price of copper but we go through this about every 5-10 years. Drugs are a problem but at least not near what the big cities are like.

re: Where to live????

If you just need a mail drop, I suggest considering South Dakota or Montana. As a ;resident;, you will not have to worry about a state income tax plus insurance costs for the RV will be a lot cheaper.
