Wealthy Brace for Obama Taxes

Back to article

You're joking

As a single mom with a BS in Computer Science, I make $60K per year - work like a dog, dawn to dusk. Gee, I'm sorry but $250,000 or more salary - I can only dream about that. I'd love to own a mansion, a yacht, a sports car, etc. It makes perfect sense to me that the more you make, the more taxes you should be paying.

"Quit your whinning...." - you read my mind. Brilliantly said!!!

I don't begrudge anyone their nice salary, but really..can we get a little perspective. Is it really necessary for people to have so much that they don't even know what they own? The party is over and I'm pleased as hell. Maybe I can even save up enough for my child to go to college one day.

And my dear Americans, it is time we learned to be humble and stopped living on credit. Do things the old fashioned way - work and save.

And this whole bailout? Sure, why not just squeeze some more blood from the working class and give it to the wealthiest of the world. Oh! That's right, it was their greed that got us into this mess in the first place.

Yay for the underdog. Finally someone in the White House who has a clue. ..... I have hope.

hello

Hi I'm not rich I only make 51,000 a year, and that was when I was working..... I'm looking for a job now, but I don't agree with Obama raising taxes for people that make more than 250k. I strongly admired rich people for their hard work to open their business, for risking everything. I have read books like Rich Dad Poor Dad and I loved it. Rich people think different than poor. I dream big and one day I want to make more money, well for now I don't want to make more than 250k. Don't want to pay higer taxes for busting my ass. Cheers to all of you rich people, I'm sure must of you have work very hard for what you have.

God bless

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

This is all so funny because of you idiots who voted for Obama & McCain. Voting for either of them ensured the continued status quo of inept government, our continued devolution, possibly our economic demise.

Neither of them really understands economics or finance and their "advisors" all belong in that 2% of wealthy americans. That 2%, by the way, probably have better ways of sheltering, deferring, or reducing their TAXABLE income than any other bracket of taxpayers.

YOU voted for them, now you reap the rewards. Enjoy giving your hard earned money to those who are too stupid and lazy to take responsibility for their own lives as well as the ultra-elite who will figure out ways to steal it back from the government.

Reality is a little of all the above

As usual the truth lies somewhere muddled in the foregoing comments. Yes, there are the working wealthy (making > $250,000) some of which made significant sacrifices and took on life changing risks to start and grow a business. These wealth creators in your communities provided jobs, enabled careers and increased tax revenues for all levels of government. Some may even accept the coming tax increase as a necessary evil though that will be a small minority. Why, because they are greedy? No, because they don't feel that government makes effective use of their hard earned incomes/taxes - its more likely the funds will end up in someone's pork barrel and/or poorly administrated government program. If they could "see" the results of their sacrifices (increased taxation) directing benefiting hard working, but down on their luck middle and lower class earners, the sick & the homeless, that may fuel their motivation for charity and selflessness. But that's not going to happen. As for the lower to middle class, again the truth lies in the weeds. Many hard working dedicated families that haven't caught a break and are down on their luck, need and deserve some help. But there are also individuals that are happy to see someone else doing the heavy lifting for them as long as they get some pogie each week to buy a case of beer & kick back knowing the've beat the system (other fools are paying their way). The way of the world I suppose. So what's going to happen with the tax increase? Only the naivete should believe that the only result will be high income earners happily sending tens of thousands of new tax dollars into the IRS while they see (or imagine) the lower/middle class (who are getting tax reductions) enjoying their comeuppance. In retaliation, you may see many business owners increasing their pay to offset the new taxes so their take home basically remains the same. Where does this increased pay come from? The salaries of those hard working low to middle class clerks, customer service people etc that will lose their jobs or may see their pay cut. The remaining employees will have to pick up the slack. The net effect of the tax increase on the >$250,000 may be increased tax revenues from the wealthy but bigger decreases in tax revenues from the worker classes than the government had bargained for (out of work or cut pay). As a result, even if there is a net increase in tax revenues those funds may be immediately required for increased unemployment benefits, programs and social services etc. I just see a greater downside for all Americans under this plan. There must be a better way forward.

Share your patriotic duty to pay more taxes!

Don't worry about Obama taxes. Just raise prices and pass the tax increase on to your customers.

Well maybe you rich folks should stop being such selfish a$$holes and instead of being greedy and "stuffing your mattress with money" actually donate it or reinvest it in the community (yes, gasp! that is also a form of wealth redistribution) so that the government wouldn't have to do it for you.

Grow a heart why don't you. Money isn't everything.

Sheesh of GA @ Nov 12, 2008 17:37:54 PM

Tax increases on top earners

Redistribution of wealth is all this is! I would happily incur the tax increase proposed for the 250K+ income earners if it was also applied to all tax brackets!! Let everone pay an income tax rate of 39.6% and bail out the needy and our country! We (the high earners) have been demonized by the Obama camp as not being "patriotic enough" for not giving more of our hard earn money. Do the liberals realize that we pump money into this economy at a much higher rate than those at lower tax brackets by employing people, buying things, giving to charity(more than Obama's charitable donations of $360 last year), investing in real estate, paying the alternative minimum tax, investing in the stock market with our "filthy money"? Do the liberals realize that they are only hurting themselves because more jobs will be lost and more of the high earners would rather stuff their mattresses with money than invest and be exposed to the rath of the "takers". Clearly having the high earners give more of their income will have a negative effect on this already ailing economy as we will "tighten our spending belts" as well.

Pompous Indeed!

As a teacher, I work very hard. I resent the comments that refer to the middle class as slackers who don't know how to work. Those of you who own your own business probably make your big money because the people working for you are working hard too. Get off your pompous high horse and think about what comes out of your mouth or off your fingertips as you key such idiotic statements.

Are they in for a surprise...

And why not ? When I was standing in line for 3hrs pre- dawn to vote ,there were more squeaky clean frat & sorority types than logic would have you believe (except in Camelot)What a contrast- in the mix gangstas & burned out ex-hippies,the huddled masses & nervous pensioners. Had to ask myself what is that these suburban kids want (apart from just p'sn off their folks, being cool etc.)from Obama. So simple it eluded me- They voted for him because they think because he took a "position "[he could'nt vote on the resolution at the state level] on the war in Iraq that he won't DRAFT them. HAH! Watch out for really poisonous snakes over there in Darfur kiddies.

Time to Shrink Your Business

The harder you work, the more you produce, the more people you hire, the more money you earn and spend, the more the Liberals hate you and steal from you.

This is obviously time to contract your business. You can probably downsize, lay off some non-productive workers and end up with more money after taxes by making less.

Which employees to lay off? Go out in the parking lot and see which cars have Obama stickers. They voted to punish you for hiring them. Solve that problem real fast! That is CHANGE You Can Believe In!!
