What It Takes to Be Rich—Where You Live

tax breaks

As mentioned, people don't have kids to profit off the taxes. No reasonable person thinks, hey, theres this tax break if we pop out another kid. We could save hundreds on our taxes! Therefore its a pointless tax break. It won't change behavior of rational adults. Children are an investment in the future for society, but a burden on the present, and of course a choice by the offending couple. Time to do away with the tax break.

And thanks Jerry for mentioning God. Its about time he started paying taxes too. Churches don't pay income taxes or property taxes, despite the fact most of their contributions to society are questionable at best. If I give $10 to a local church, about $8 will go to upkeep and costs of providing entertainment, maybe $1.80 to try to tell people at the church down the road that they're worshipping wrong and that they should join the evangelizers church, and possibly $.20 to help the poor or do some stunt like making gas free or something stupid.

If God predicted the financial crisis 2000 years ago, you have a much cooler bible than mine. Can I borrow it to see what other investment advice he has? Oh, was it just a vague warning of disaster or something, and when said disaster occured, believers pointed to it to say repent sinners, the end is near, like they have thousands of times before? Thats what I figured.

T o be Rich

Rich to me is Peace of Mind

I am concerned about lifestyle, if the income that I am generating supports the lifestyle that I am living then I have Peace of Mind in that state I feel 'Rich" if not I am uneasy and it is time to evaluate.

I realize that there are those who are very disconnected to the facts, and it's no wonder, there are many deceptions out there. The biggest deception is that the "Jones" are doing so well.

I would like to make those of you who never learned, aware that we live in a capitalistic society, meaning that generating money is our focus. You have many vehicles to use to adjust your lifestyle needs but you can only ride one vehicle at a time

America is Great in that aspect that is why the rags to riches stories can be told.

Financially rich to me is having enough money to just explore

life according to your imagination and never have to consider the financial cost.

I'm still looking for that vehicle that will produce those resources.

What It Takes to Be Rich—Where You Live

Seems Americans, including the media are still humg up on keeping up with the Jones's or whoever is perceived as "living high off the hog."

It's a sad comment on America's lack of being awakened by the tragediss all around us and not realizing that all that is happening was being told, not by the media, but by prophets and disciples...only about 2000 years ago...

Go ahead America, continue to worship the almighty dollar...

... but don't expect to be written in the "book of life."

See Revelation, chapter 20

At least Kate S. of Il. seems to have accepted reality.

Don't ask for America to be blessed if you are part of the problem... May God have mercy on us all.

Guess I'm not Rich either!

Money is not all its cracked up to be! I just want to be comfortable in the middle class. I'm not even sure I am middle class. My husband is disabled due to God knows what and I am a Registered Nurse and we struggle. What is middle class? Anyone know?

Not "rich" in NYC

We are DINKs living in NYC. Our income falls somewhere between the top 20% and the top 5%, yet we do not feel even remotely "rich." That's pretty difficult when you live in a city where a martini costs $14 and a pasta dinner for two is upwards of $50. It's also hard to feel "rich" when you're surrounded by folks who can drop $10K a month for their rent and think nothing of spending $500 or more on a pair of shoes. In other words, whether you're "rich" or not depends, in large part, on where you live and how the folks around you spend their money. Hell, everyone here knows at least one i-banker in his or her 20s who spent more than $1M on their first apartment. Just a few weeks ago, the NY Times had an article about a couple in their early 30s who spent $35K on DRAPES just before the market crash. Now that's rich (or at least it was!).

edit before you post

Why don't we start the process of earning more income by proof reading our work.

"My husband and [I] have [previously earned] about $45,000 a year. But we've recently been laid off and thus have had to take [lower] paying jobs. I only wish that [we] could make $75,000 per year."

Sorry, but your writing gave me a slight headache.

overtaxed in Texas

You should stop passing ignorant judgement and realize that if it were not for the parents who make sacrifices and life affecting choices everday, the great leaders and tax payors of tomorrow would not be in the making.

I agree with family planning. Parents should make an educated choice to have children when they are financially able to provide for them. Life, however, is not always planned. Each child or human being is truly a gift from God.

Families with children deserve tax breaks for many reasons. First and foremost, families with children stimulate the economy by purchasing a variety of goods and services a single tax payor does not. Secondly, these children are the future tax payors.

If your parents chose to use birth control, you would not be here. Too bad they didn't make the choice for birth control and cut themselves off before they overpopulated the earth with another idiot.
