Do the internship. You have started and you need to finish. You will feel good to have finished and that will look good on your resume no matter what you do. It will open a door to a job. You will make it. You have made it this far. If you don't like school psych as a career you can quit later. Internships can be stressful. School psych can be a stressful career. Some people find it more stressful than others. You don't say what your background is or what field you would look at if you dropped the internship now. Not everyone likes school psych. I worked for 30 years and there is a lot about the field I didn't like, but there are things I did like. I did find it stressful. Working in education is not easy and not always fun or rewarding. You work hard for the money, too hard I feel.

Here is your encouragement

I am currently 1/2 way through my internship and love it. While I do not know about what states are best to work in, the nasponline.org website is very helpful if you need more information.

The economy does seem to be a little crazy right now....however, i have not personally heard of any local sites talk about decreasing their school psyc staff....in fact, many sites are in need of at least one -if not more- school psycs.

Encouragement

I'm too looking to go into School psychology. I'm scared because of the jobs and also the salary. Is this job worth it? What are the best states to work in? I'm looking to go into adminstration after I get my masters. Is this a good choice? Someone give me some feedback?

Need Encouragement

I am just starting my internship as a School Psych. and am literally on the verge of quitting and starting a whole new program. This job seems really stressful and with the current economic situation I am scared about jobs once I finish. Is there anyone who could share their internship experience and how they got through it.

Donna of MA and school psych

Yes with a degree already in Education/ reading and another in Counseling/ psych, it is worth your while to look into school psych. You have good background for school psych. You didn't say what you have done with those degrees career-wise. If those are graduate degrees, you might want to look into doctoral program in school psych.

School Psychologist

I have two Master's Degrees: one in Education with a focus on Reading Instruction, and another in Counseling and Psychology. Do you think it would be worth my while to look into a program for School Psychologist?

Admin cert or doctorate in psych

To move up into ed administration you often need to have background in general ed/special ed teaching. Without this it is hard to go far in administration. Some school psychs do move into admin without teaching background but probably many more do not.

advice, please!

Hi,

I'm first year student going for my master's in school psych. I am considering the administrative certificate, but I'm wondering if my time is better spent towards a psy.D. Can anyone help me with that? Also, I was wondering if anyone knows about the salaries, as you start and later, with more experience.

Thanks!

Using and abusing

Our district uses and abuses the pyschologists to an appalling degree. Yes, they work with students, but most often it is testing, testing, testing. Certainly needed, but I know that what is often needed (from both ends) is quality time with the student. Additionally, in our district, the psychologist (yes, the psychologist) has to do the bus scheduling for special needs students. What a waste of education and talent.

Additional thoughts...

Let me also mention that I have never written a report that was only 3 pages long! What an inaccurate picture of a child that would provide. And my stress level...as with many other school psychologists in my district and state, as well as in other states... is generally pretty high and sometimes barely manageable.
