Hi

If you have the time, patience, and money full service or a specialty is your best bet for the long run. You will have more control over your pricing, customers and hours. If you dont have the time, patience and money then franchises are ok. You don't have to advertise yourself and look for clients since they provide them and you will get a paycheck no matter what. The main problem that I've seen in stylist (I'm a licensed stylist) is if you start in a "cut cut" franchise then later want to go in full service, it seems to be hard to leave the "cut cut" company. Thats how I and many more got stuck!

Hi...

I am a make-up artist/ esthetician. I have beeen out of work for about a year due to pregnancy/ moving to another location.

I am considering going back to school for Cosmetology (which I should have done in the first place) but I wanted to see how the now-working cosmetologist feel about their job in this slow economy. I am a Mom of two, so I am interested in having time for my kids as well as make good money!

I would appreciate any and all in-put;-) Thanx

owner

I have been in Salon business since 1978 started as a Stylist opened my own salon in 1983. 26 years and 4 Salons later i have several stylists who had been with our company for over 18 years had gone through BA and Masters degree, had gone through couple of marriages etc and they all are making over $100,000.00 on W-2 which doesn't include tips. So yes this might be a small percentage of industry but if you put yourself to a great school and work your way up in upscale salon with good standing it is a very good career.
