Immigration Specialist. The Center for Immigration Studies, a nonpartisan group based in Washington, reports that the nation's immigrant population (legal and illegal) exceeds 38 million and that immigrants account for 1 in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in 80 years. According to the Pew Hispanic Center, if current trends continue, immigrants arriving from 2005 to 2050 and their descendants will account for 82 percent of the nation's population growth.
This is giving rise to unprecedented demand, in all sectors, for immigration specialists. Businesses are eager to figure out how to market to this new population. Public schools are struggling to meet the needs of the masses of children who don't speak English (often with uneducated parents) who are flooding many school districts. Hospitals, the criminal justice system, other government agencies, and nonprofit advocacy organizations need bilingual and bicultural people to serve this new population.
