Did anyone at US news even test it out - seriously!!

Unfortunately, as far as MagicJack is concerned. It simply doesn't work.

I did the 30 day trail. I've kept the MagicJack in the hopes they will "figure it out" (the advantage of the cheap cost to try it out). Vonage had its fair share of problems, but now it works flawlessly, and the quality it excellent. Even with different service providers (DSL or Cable).

Don't even think about tech support. I accused the "person" (personally I think their name is HAL), of being a computer. The responses were just too canned. Definitely smelt like AI. Especially, when they just keep typing the same thing over and over again.

Anyway, MagicJack was a cool toy for nerds like myself who just can't resist playing with new gadgets. But it is definitely a toy, and I was only entertained for about a day. We are back to using our cell phones for a second line.

Sorry Dan, but all the networks you build will not get me QoS from my house to your network, so having a wonderful backbone is worthless.

Oh yeah, tried the upgrade. If anything, things are worse. Completely unusable, and per the comment in the article, don't even think about using a tone driven menu system.

MagicJack is GREAT!!

I bought two magicJack units and sent one to friends in the Philippines. I have never been so excited about a product. Excellant call quality and no dropped calls. My wife and I have made a lot of calls using magicJack and not one problem. Just this morning, I used my cordless phone, connected to the magicJack, and walked about 300 feet from my house. I was able to make a call with the same quality as if I was in the house. The call quality is great on incoming or outgoing calls. Since all calls between two magicJack units are free, our friends in the Philippines, and I, will be able to talk for free. I like the product so well I am going to become a reseller. Anyone who is not happy with their unit, leave your email here and I will contact you and make an offer for the unit. The tech support is available only on the internet. For those of you who complained about this, the reason is so that they can eliminate a poor internet connection as the problem.

It aint the cat's meow

I spent my money on Magic Jack and it doesn't work consistently. It does not work at all on one of my computers after spending much time with customer service. Their best suggestion? Reload my operating system. And I am a computer expert. Skype isn't a complete solution either, but at least I can do video calls for free, and I don't have to carry a gizmo around, like Magic Jack.

MagicJack

MagicJack is a jock. It dos not work. There is no tech support, cant contact the company if you need to.They are hiding behind the Internet, there chat support is one of the worst that I experience. I got my majicjack and after four weeks I start having problem I had to give it up. I got taken for 40 dollars. Don't get Magik Jack you will be sorry.

Vonage Service Does Not Compete

I have used Vonage since for many years now. The service quality is poor. When my fax is receiving a call it interferes from my standard line. It drops calls, gargles calls and loses calls at will. I have magicJack here as a second line until I can port or use my existing number. (MagicJack says it's coming this Summer). Though I like some of and whistles of the Vonage product and online dashboard, it is like owning a Pimped Out Pinto. magicJack sound quality is crystal clear, sometimes - and I know it sounds wierd - too clear. All the magicJack naysayers, and there are maybe a hundred or so (out of 400,00 sold) either have poorly managed computers, lack basic troubleshooting knowledge, are impatient, or work for Vonage, Skype (a joke!), Verizon or other competitors. Imagine FREE Local and Long DIstance calling in US and CANADA versus $30 - $80 a month for others. Dan Borislow has introduced truly disruptive technology! By the way, Steve Jobs and Apple sold like 6,000,000 iPhones in the time Borislow sold 400,000 magicJacks....mighty impressive.

magic jack

I ordered the magic jack with no problems. It arrived in 2 days. I plugged it in and it worked beautifully within 10 minutes. The sound quality is much better than my vonage service. I run an ISP and am so impressed that I am going to become a reseller when it is possible. The only thing I do not likd is that you cannot migrate your old phone number...but I bet that is coming. They may be victims of their own success in keeping up with orders and customer service, but I am willing to put up with a few hiccups for the quality and price....oh, and the mobility.

I also don't trust the reviews/articles

Something seems fishy about this company/product/service and I have felt that way since first hearing about it months ago. I have not heard anything good about it from someone that I would trust. I trust the numbers or hype or almost anything about it.

Look out Vonage?

Vonage, provides service through an ATA that can serve our entire house without having your PC on and working at optimum capability. While I love the price of Magic Jack, it is not a substiute for regular phone service.

My Vonage has been rock solid, while I have read of numerous poblems and almost non-existent customer servie from Magic Jack.

This article, in their headline, is comparing apples and oranges. Kind of like saying hello AOL messenger, lookout AT&T.

attempting to purchase a magic jack

I`d like to know how the thousands of people that have ordered magic jacks got theres . I have made so many atttempts to order one that I lost count. Although the attempts seemed to have gone through I never received an e-mail to give me a conformation number . Without a number you can`t check on your order. If you are able to get a "live person" you can`t order through them and they only tell you to try to re-order again. I`ve tried on the phone several times and on line. If I didn`t want to try this product I would have given up a long time ago. I think this may be a scam. Maybe it`s for the best that I couldn`t get through. Supposed I wasn`t satisified how would I ever get my money back??
