Look Out, Vonage. Here Comes magicJack

I also don't trust the reviews/articles

Something seems fishy about this company/product/service and I have felt that way since first hearing about it months ago. I have not heard anything good about it from someone that I would trust. I trust the numbers or hype or almost anything about it.

Look out Vonage?

Vonage, provides service through an ATA that can serve our entire house without having your PC on and working at optimum capability. While I love the price of Magic Jack, it is not a substiute for regular phone service.

My Vonage has been rock solid, while I have read of numerous poblems and almost non-existent customer servie from Magic Jack.

This article, in their headline, is comparing apples and oranges. Kind of like saying hello AOL messenger, lookout AT&T.

attempting to purchase a magic jack

I`d like to know how the thousands of people that have ordered magic jacks got theres . I have made so many atttempts to order one that I lost count. Although the attempts seemed to have gone through I never received an e-mail to give me a conformation number . Without a number you can`t check on your order. If you are able to get a "live person" you can`t order through them and they only tell you to try to re-order again. I`ve tried on the phone several times and on line. If I didn`t want to try this product I would have given up a long time ago. I think this may be a scam. Maybe it`s for the best that I couldn`t get through. Supposed I wasn`t satisified how would I ever get my money back??

Don't Bother....

They do not tell you in advance that if you want their service you have to accept SPAM in order to offset these so called low costs.

And when you go to Liveperson you are connected to some third world country where they do not speak or understand english so they hit random canned responses.

I cannot believe that all of these companies have given such stellar reviews, they must be getting theirs for free.

Custmer Service

You cannot reach a live human no matter how badly they overcharge -- and they DO! So far, I've not even plugged the two jacks in because I decided it wasn't worth it. I got a 'return merchandise authorization' number, returned the two jacks and so far, have STILL been charged an extra $39.99! This, in addition, to the $54 for the two jacks in the first place! And to get a "Live Chat" person online, you have to come up with a question that has no words in it that are found in the FAQ! It took 26 attempts before I FINALLY got someone on that "Live Chat - and no one there could do anything except tell me that I'd get a "confirmation email" within 24 hours. When I asked confirmation of WHAT - the conversation we just had or ?? - the person had no answer! When I asked for a phone number, so I could speak to a human, I was told none existed. The owner's flip remark about this is ridiculous, too - HE says that they don't offer live human help because it allows them to 'know' that hooking up to the internet isn't a technical problem - well,NUTS to that! When they owe me nearly $100 and I cannot get a hold of any human, and can't get the money back .... something tells me this company started out with a big bang but that it will not last if this is the only customer service it has!

And btw, you STILL have to have some kind of internet access - either DSL, dialup, whatever -- or it won't work! So, you STILL have two charges. Guess it just depends on how much long distance you use.

magicjack

No carnival barker here. Dan Borsilow is passionate about Magicjack and it shows in his ads. In this horrible economy he is saving people thousands of dollars. Why don't you jump on line with him and say goodbye to AT&T, Vonage and Skype?

magicjack with the internet

How does it work with the internet. Must I keep my provider for the internet access or does the magicjack providied access as will.

william of CA @ Jun 07, 2008 08:36:31 AM

MagicJack

Dan may be a magician who can make phone bills disappear but he certainly isn't a carnival barker. I have had two MagicJacks for over a year; one at home and one for travel. Crystal clear connections around the world calling back to the U.S. MagicJack just keeps getting better. Dan the inventor - you are the best. Another J.D. Powers award on the horizon.

This is a great product! I was up and calling in less than 2 minutes and I am no techie. Who cares if he sounds like a carnival barker? I just wish I had invented this thing because if I had you could say I sounded like a sea lion and I wouldn't care..

Cable Company needs a Telephone Network-Dan Borislow Inventor

I obviously disagree with the analyst in your article. The bundling of services is more about eliminating Bills than bundling dissimilar services together. My company, magicJack will far better than cable and telephone companies because not only don't we bill monthly, like they all do,we hardly bill you any money at all.The point of cable companies having voice is ver far off, they need to have a phone company to supply voice. That is why they are spending millions to do so now.

As far as VOIPs days are numbered as a disruptive technology,I assume he means VOIP is here to stay as the mainstay.I agree with this in the consumer market. What is disruptive with magicJack, just like my last company when we sold 4 million members AOL Long Distance service,is the price point.

The point I attempted to make about advertising,is that nobody even recognizes that we are making money off advertising because it is a huge convenience feature for our users. We have links to Yahoo,Google,Free directory assistance, weather,AOL.So these links are all very much appreciated by our users ,but it affords us an oppurtunity to make money. It's a win win for all.

Lastly, the customer service quality has improved by a factor of 2.5 times in 60 days and gets better everyday. We did not have experienced agents, because we did not have a service 150 days ago.Now not only are they experienced, but the customer grades the reps on every chat we have.We eliminate the bad reps and keep the good ones.We now have an easy escalation path to super reps now.Our grades are now 7 excellent chats to every bad one.It was 2.5 to 1 60 days ago.My prior company previously recieved JD Power gradings that were excellent, this company will do better.
