Overrated Small Business: Traffic-Driven Websites

Back to article

NOT THAT EASY !

Have owned and operated approx 20 or so web sites, this is not a get rich business as some say. The only sites that I have had that have been succesful are the ones that offer the people a Real Value, something they can use. for example my Top One is: www.USBizTrader.com

Reading is Fundemental

It sounds like most of you purposefully misunderstood what the author said.

1) He's talking about web sites whose income is solely dependent on ad revenue. We're not talking about sites that actually sell a product or service.

2) He said they were overrated, not that most people don't make any money at all.

Traffic Driven websites - quantity?

If you want to make money from websites be prepared to create 100 of them.

I am halfway there, and after the first 20 I think I learned what I was doing right/wrong.

At least, I thought I did. Then one of my pagerank 3 sites drops to pagerank 0 and all my advertisers run away and I lose $300/month.

Oh well, treat it like a hobby until it makes real money, then you can't lose.

http://www.VintageTeeShirt.com is my latest marketing test... :)

Huh

Anyone else think it's ironic that this denunciation of the traffic-driven website as a business model is being published on a traffic-driven website?

Web Service Hustlers

Overrated Small Business? I Disagree

This sounds just like someone who have no idea how lucrative this industry is. There are millionaires created every year due to the power of traffic generations. I do agree if you have not the knowledge, please stay far away until you study under someone who can show you the big picture. It's really not that hard to make income when billions of people are looking to spend their money. Think about this - I could spend 12 hours from the time I prepare to go to work from the time I arrive back home and probably make $160 that day by actually working 8 hours on a $20 hourly pay; or, I can spend 4 hours posting 4 articles, 4 press releases, 4 lenses, and 4 videos in front of a targeted market for a particular product and make $500 dollars. How do I know? Because I've done it at www.Ask4Ben(dot)com.

"By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day."

Web 2.0 will NOT go away.

The internet is evolving and changing as each second passes. It won't be Google and the search engines calling the shots, but the PEOPLE surfing the web and recommending what is relevant and what is not (Notice how google is WAY better at cataloging the content on the web compared to 2 or 3 years ago?) Those that don't think it's profitable to create websites and drive traffic to those (niche) websites that are focussed on specific topics that people are actually searching for are crazy - it works. There are over 31 billion searches on the web EVERY MONTH now through Google compared to only a few billion back in 2006. What does this mean? people search for information every day and more and more people rely on the internet to find that information - when was the last time you were curious about something (a review, price, product info) and DIDN'T google it?

I run numerous websites, on topics you wouldn't believe drive consistant traffic and earn money - it may be a small amount of traffic, but the visitors are BUYERS. As the article mentions, who cares if you get 2 million visitors a month if nobody buys?! What if you could drive a few hundred visitors a month to a series of websites, but each of them made a few hundred dollars each? If you don't think it's profitable, you're living in the dark ages.

WEB SITES, Makeing Money with your Web Site

People are still thinking having a Web Site is the answer for their small business. And as we all know it can help... But can you make a living with a web site?

As a small business owner, I have always been excited about the exposure of a web site, it will take a small business like mine, and put it in front of millions of people that you would have never had the chance to contact.

But as most small business owners don't under stand, the work,, tons of work, and as soon as you get things going, somebody changes the marketing rules, the search engines pull from different areas, or whatever.

Dont' give up, I currently have approx 20 some web sites, some make money while others just generate nothing. Keep tweeking the marketing, if that doesn't work, drop that web site add another. It's not me making the market, it's the people, if it doesn't work drop it before it drains you.

I have had webs sites for around 10 years old now, maybe even longer, www.CarProfit.com was one of my first web sites, and it's still going strong is one of my best. Like anything you need to offer the people something of real value, something they can use.

The days of just throwing a web site and people signing up or buying from you are gone, You "NEED REAL VALUE", or don't waste your time. And don't compare your self to the mega sites, you can make a living with a few good ones, but it is a full time job, don't let people tell you just work it 2 hours a month, there is a lot of competion out there. You need to be on top of all the marketing ideas, without spending your life savings on.

Still the Best Business in town for the investment.

GO FOR IT !

Wish you all the Best,
