Cereal and cheap lingerie
Wal-mart put my town's local lingerie and grocery store out of business...however their lingerie has saved me some money and has kept me from haffin ta drive ta Little Rock everytime I want some new flava.

Major Flaws Uncovered in Study Claiming Wal-Mart Has Not Harmed Small Business
I hope the authors of the original study will have any profits from it reversed.
Last year I went back to my small hometown in Alabama for the first time in several years. the last time I was there I was pleasantly surprised to see the growth there,several new malls fast food places and some nice specialty shops. Since there had been only one midsize grocery it was nice to see some larger grocery stores in the mall.I went to the grocery I remembered in the mall only to find that Wal mart had moved in several years before. And now nearly every store in both malls, all but one fast food place and all but two of the specialty shops had closed. Shaking my head in wonder I went to the small grocer downtown which had been there since I was a child only to find that it was a church now. With the competition gone Walmart then cut back its hours, reduced varieties and allowed prices to creep up. It seems that between the loss of jobs, loss of variety and all the empty stores it is indeed hard to tell how the coming of Wal mart helped the communitiy.
