Keys to Starting a Business in Retirement

You offer excellent suggestions to baby boomer entrepreneurs, those seeking to start retirment business. Baby boomers have both advantages and challenges due to the stage of life at which they seek to start a business. The most significant challenge, as you have indicated is the challenge of time.

All entrepreneurs struggle with time, what can be done in a 24 hour period. Baby boomers face the addtional unknown of how long they will want to continue to work. Of course, this is an issue for all entrepreneurs; but there are additional considerations for baby boomers.

As I see it, your suggestions about using your experience to the fullest and having fun, are actually suggestions on how to use time. Most baby boomer entrepreneurs are launching businesses as a way to enjoy their time of retirement, as an alternative to conventional retirement. So the goal is to establish a business that allows you to enjoy a balanced life. Using your experience allows you to both make more effective use of your time by cuting the learning curve. It also gives you a leverage point so that you can use systems and people to accomplish what you can not do by yourself.

As a baby boomer entrepreneurs focusing upon preparing for my retirement years, I am following the advice you have shared. I hope that other baby boomer entrepreneurs will follow your suggestions as well.

More about my coming retirement in China

Here in Hainan, we have our own house, and I'm sorry that I didn't make it clear that I will be paid a little more than 2000 yuan after I prepay for medical services, and that we can get some money back from our account of medical care every year if we don't spend it from our account paying for that services. And I'd like to tell you that the prices for consumer goods here are lower than big cities like Guangzhou and Shanghai.

Good suggestions, but...

I'm going to retire from my job as a middle school teacher in a little over a month's time. In China after retirement I will be able to be paid about 2000 yuan a month, so I don't have to worry about the rest of my life. In fact, I will be able to live a really happy life, going fishing, playing table tennis almost every day and travelling around some interesting places sometimes. I can make some money during my retirement by working as a tutor of course, but money is not everything, I prefer to have a relaxing and healthy life after all.
