Gandhi on root of financial crisis - 2

I claim that to industrialize India in the same sense as Europe is to attempt the impossible. India is one of the few nations of the earth which have witnessed the fall of many civilizations, herself remaining scatheless. My faith in her ability to solve the economic problem that faces her millions has never been so bright as it is today. (6-8-1925)

To make India like England and America is to find some other races and places of the earth for exploitation. So far it appears that the Western nations have divided all the known races outside Europe for exploitation and that there are no new worlds to discover. What can be the fate of India trying to ape the West? Indeed the West has had a surfeit of industrialism and exploitation. If they who are suffering from the disease are unable to find a remedy to correct evils, how shall we, mere novices, be able to avoid them? (7-10-1926)

I know that man cannot live without industry. Therefore, I cannot be opposed to industrialization. But I have a great concern about introducing machine industry. The machine produces much too fast, and brings with it a sort of economic system which I cannot grasp. I do not want to accept something when I see its evil effects which outweigh whatever good it brings with it.

We want industry, let us become industrious. Let us become more self-dependent, then we will not fellow the other people's lead so much. We shall introduce machines if and when we need them. Once we shall have shaped our life on non-violence, we shall know how to control the machine.

Gandhi on root of financial crisis

Industrialization is, I am afraid, going to be a curse for mankind. Exploitation of one nation by another cannot go on for all time. Industrialism depends entirely on your capacity to exploit, on foreign markets being open to you, and on the absence of competitors . . . India, when it begins to exploit other nations-as it must if it becomes industrialized-will be a curse for other nations, a menace to the world.

The future of industrialism is dark.

In the course of a few years the Western nations may cease to find in Africa a dumping ground for their wares. (12-11-1931)

I do not believe that industrialization is necessary in any case for any country. It is much less so for India. Indeed, I believe that Independent India can only discharge her duty towards a groaning world by adopting a simple but ennobled life by developing her thousands of cottages and living at peace with the world. High thinking is inconsistent with complicated material life based on high speed imposed on us by Mammon worship. All the graces of life are possible only when we learn the art of living nobly.

Whether such plain living is possible for an isolated nation, however large geographically and numerically, in the face of a world armed to the teeth and in the midst of pomp and circumstance is a question open to the doubt of a septic. The answer is straight and simple. If plain life is worth living, then the attempt is worth making. (1-9-1946)

God forbid that India should ever take to industrialism after the manner of the West. The economic imperialism of a single tiny island kingdom (England) is to day keeping the world in chains. If an entire nation of 300 millions took to similar economic exploitation, it would strip the world bare like locusts. (20-12-1928)

Industrialization on a mass scale will necessarily lead to passive or active exploitation of the villagers. Therefore, we have to concentrate on the village being self-contained, manufacturing mainly for use. Provided, there would be no objection to villagers using even the modern machines and tools that they can make and can afford to use. Only they should not be used as a means of exploitation of others. (29-8-1936)

My own view is that the evils are inherent in industrialism, and no amount of socialization can eradicate them. (29-9-1940)

I have the conviction within me that when all these achievements of the machine age will have disappeared, these our handicrafts will remain; when all exploitations will have ceased, service and honest labour will remain. It is because this faith sustains me that I am going on with my work. (30-11-1935)

What is industrialism but a control of the majority by a small minority? There is nothing attractive about it nor is there anything inevitable in it. (6-8-1825)

Are you people for real

A little to much fantasy and not enough reallity. This has happened every decade for the last seventy years, sometimes twice. Some worse than others and some real bad. This system has always and will recover. Socailism has always failed when emplemented fully, read your history. It requires some people to make money while the others ride for free, till to many people try to ride and there is not enough earners. Then the system fails and creates a weak class of people. Go to work, start a business, be an artist, be a blogger and make enough money to be happy, pay your taxes and give to someone who truly needs it. We need to make some improvements and stop the network of the same old friends and business partners that are appointeed to the power positions that have been going on for to long. If you think that has stopped you are mistaken. This system allows all classes and races of people to rise up. As in all walks of life thier are people who want it and people who do not. So buck up and grab a root and hang on.

Money

"The love of money is the root of all of it"

We need a new financial system period. No one should have the kind of power they have just because they have money. That is exactly why the system will eventually fail. Money is only worth what we believe it is worth. Why do you think that consumer confidence is almost always tied to growth or shrinkage. The new system might be called socialism, but only the rich and the hopefull think that kind of system is evil.

Socialism does not mean you lose freedom. We all know "freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose" And I know freedom is "newspeak" for someone is getting ready to tell me a lie. We are not free, we might have some better rules that other countries. That doesnt make us free. We dont seek freedom anyways, we seek power, power over are environment, our bodies, paid, doubt, fear etc. We are taught that money or love or possessions will give us what we want. But want just puts us in a perpetual state of want.

To change the world we must change ourselves, and overcome fear and act on or better nature. If we dont it wont matter what we do. If we dont change our system to a world system of "peopleism" we will selfdestuct. That is what happens when an individual operates out of pure selfcenterness, eventually that is what will happen to the peoples system. In the end we will all be fighting over the scraps that our ancestors left us cause of their oversized ego's and their true fear of real change.

5 decades in making US and global insolnecy

globalism and the new world dis order decontrol has just deferred and magnified the consequences of limited world resources political corruption. Nearly every country has seen personal and national savings laundered off to tax havens and secret corporations owned by someone or some thing. Its just a process of gradualism that has finally hit the fan. Any further delays will just make the future problems worse. More devaluation, more tax cuts, more unearned give aways, and entitlements will just erode the economic strength and power the US form of politics and economics has had and has earned!

Too may greedy politicians and corporations and executives. All want more of the people wealth and earnings and savings!

Current mess

I doubt anything can fix the current mess. 97% + Americans are in the state of deep inertia.

Politicians are more irresponsible, uneducated and corrupted. GOP is dead, courtesy of Bush's. Judges say we are stupid, overthrowing existing laws without public consent (IA gay marriage amendment). This can't be good. One day "the people" will wake up.

Only then, remodeling will start with series of public executions of those who sold America...

Good night Amigos

We have to fix it

Assigning blame will not fix this mess. I'm not sure if anything will, but I would like to offer a few suggestions. #1 Get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we can't change a tribal mentality into a democracy no matter how many Taliban we kill. We can't afford the wars. #2 Stop ANY new spending that is not deficit neutral. Now. Our debt is un-affordable and growing exponentially. Stop before it is too late. #3 We are not animals and cannot just desert the poorest, disabled, and most vulnerable in our society. We must however, take the waste out of medical care. 30% of medical care is paperwork. Really. In spite of all you have been told, insurance companies are only paper shuffling middlemen between we and our doctors. We need a system that eliminates that middleman, preferably an arrangement between all the doctors and their patients directly. A government option would only keep any insurance company from taking advantage of you. Every time you are turned down for something now, it is the insurance company doing it. Not the doctors, and not you, trust me I know. That 30% should be used through some mechanism to fund HSA (health savings accounts) that go right into the pocket of the citizen who can only use it for health care, but it rolls over every year if you don't use it. Everybody gets insurance they can afford. You can use that for higher co-pays I think are inevitable.

I hope these ideas are something worth kicking around anyway.

A concerned citizen.
