A Prius That Can Power Your House?

This is second-generation Prius

Mr. Newman states that the "prim, bubble-shaped" Prius debuted in the US in 2000. Actually, the one that debuted here in 2000 was the first-generation Prius that looked like an uglier Corolla. The current iconic Prius debuted in the US for 2004.

Strange, new concept?

Plugging in your car overnight is not a strange, new concept. Check out the Saturn EV1 and, for a little more insight, watch "Who Killed The Electric Car?"

By the Time It Gets Here, Will it Still be Cutting Edge?

It seems like the evolutions in car technology are taking too long. Americans are ready for this type of car right now (especially with the $4.20 a gallon pain I experienced at the pump yesterday). Now if I can recharge the battery with nuclear or solar energy. . .

40 mpg????

The older RAV4-EV and GM's EV1` reportedly got upwards of 100 miles on a charge. Years later, the auto manufacturers claim to be struggling to reach 40 miles!!!!!!!

LiON is of yet, UNPROVEN technology while NiMH has a LONG history of use. Get the patent 'squatter' to allow the use of NiMH for 'transportation' use and really improve things. As I understand it, MOST of the NiMH batteries are recycleable (sp?) while the same does not seem to be true for LiON. Makes me wonder where the world is going and what am I doing in this handbasket!

wake up TOYOTA

For years WE the PUBLIC HAVE BEEN WAITING for someone like Toyota or G.M. to get off their butts and supply us with a good cheap electric plug in car. We know they can do it ,but big oil does not want them to. It was done by most of them in the 90`s. WE know you can do this and stop opec from draining the world of its money and polluting our air. Please stand up for all of us who have made you all rich by buying these gas cars. The time has come to change to plug in electric cars.DO THE RIGHT THING. We will make you much richer and you will be able to breath much better like the rest of U.S. and the world will make you HEROS!

great for power outages

Living in Miami, where hurricanes distrupt power for any days, the feature to run your house very useful.

I could have used it when I was eithout power for 11 days, then later gfr 8 days all in one summer.

A Prius CAN Power Your House

And you don't have to wait for Toyota to offer the feature, either. See

Plug-In At Home Prius.

I would buy a Plug In Prius Today if Toyota Made one. But because they don't sell one yet, Looks like I'm going to be stuck with getting the Aptera Plug In Hybrid. at 300 Miles Per gallon I guess I'll be happy for awhile. At least until Toyota Finally releases their Plug In Versions of the Hybrid System. I also would like to run my gas engine on compressed natural gas, from my home rather than the gasoline at the gas station. CNG only cost one dollar per gallon(when pumped from your home with "Phill" Station), that sure beats $4.15 per gallon(At Chevron in Glendale, and that's for regular unleaded, super was $4.33 per gallon Ouch), todays gas prices.

EV/PV

The EV is coming back with a vengeance.

As one who drives one of the original Toyota RAV4 EVs from 2002, I can attest that EVs are a game changer. There is no pollution associated with driving the car. All the energy is domestic, and if gotten from a renewable source, there is no pollution well-to-wheels.

Most folks who drive EVs will gravitate to using solar PV to generate the power since offsetting gas at these prices will pay for the PV in a few short years, yet will last for over 50 years. For instance, my 3 kW PV system provides all the power for my house and car for the whole year. My electric bill last year was only $44.08.

Lots of car companies are in development on pure EVs and plug-in hybrids. Starting next year, everyone will get the chance to experience what a few thousand Californians have known for years. This stuff really works!
