Avolon 2007

My wife and I bought our Avolon about a year ago, and it amazzes us on long trips. Our first trip to the coast on company business we got 33.6 mile per gallon and this last weekend I went on a trip averaging 29.9 mpg at 80 mile per hour! Our town mileage is about 24 to 27 mpg with an occational 22 mpg. It's not a highbrid but it does get good mileage.

The car was purchased because it has the most room inside of any car we look at. With my mother and inlaws getting up in years we are having to take them to town and to relatives they want to visit. The roominess has work well for us.

We love it!!!

Why the American auto industry fails

I have owned both American and Japanese cars, mostly Toyota on the Japanese side, there is no disputing that that the Toyota brand is a much better car and made for the long haul! My camry (1992 4 cyl) had over two hundred and eight thousand miles on it before it was totaled in an accident.,until this accident the car never burned a drop of oil ,and the transmission shifted like new! I indeed did maintain the car properely but even when I did so with my American cars they never treated me so good.I was never nickled and dimed to death replacing water pumps and suspension parts, instead the car was jsut built to last! The American auto industry was much more interested in fad than reliability and it showed down the road.

Toyota does it better!

The CEO of Ford in 2007 made enough money in wages and benifits in one year to keep the Ford plant near St Louis open for a year ($250,000,000 ) The CEOs are taking all the credit and all the money. Wake up America's CEOs you are the problems of the U.S. auto industry!

When I moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1968 the local Toyota

dealer was new to the city. People then, were hesitant (I don't know

why) ...to buy a foreign car...but, as a sales representative for a local

radio station, the Toyota dealership was one of my clients. So, I

b ought a Toyota Corona. One of the best rides I've had, and I've

owned Buicks, Pontiacs, Chevrolets, Fords and Cadillacs...and

I've gotta tell you that little ole Toyota Corona took me all over the

state of SC and NC...on business trips I don't own a Toyota now,

but, back then ...I really enjoyed it. It's a good reliable Company.

Good for Toyota

I am driving a very nice Infiniti but my next car will be a Toyota or Lexus.

We should feel very jealous! Good for Japan!

Toyota

I can't agree more. I have been a Toyota sales consultant for 15 years. The more I learn about the company, the more my respect has grown for them. They admit when they make a mistake, then they learn from it times two.

Their committment to quality and timely products are second to none. After WW2, when nothing seemed to go right for Toyota, General Douglass MacArthur instituted the "Training within industry (TWI)" program to help the struggling Japanese manufacturing sector. Most companies adapted many of these "American" principles. Toyota fully embraced it. Coupled with Toyota's pledge of "Kaizen" (continous improvement) and "Lean Manufacturing," there was no stopping them. Toyota has beaten American companies at their own game, coming close to perfecting it! Even with all of the success of the past few decades and now being the number one vehicle maker in the world, Toyota still has an uncanny awareness and respect for its competiters. Humility?.....I'd say so....DP
