Theme Park Wars: Disney Edging Out Universal, But Everybody Is Losing

Back to blog

Universal versus Disney

In my opinion Universal blows Disney out of the water. It has all the thrill rides people are looking for, and envelops a memorable experience to share with the entire family. Disney parks get more attendance because they are geared towards the younger crowds. Disney may be doing aggressive promotions right now, but the quality of hotels and parks is inferior to Universal.

Maybe the top executives at Disney and Universal will forego their megamillion compensation packages instead of firing and laying off theme park workers. Then again, maybe not.

To Muser

It is the worst thing happening to the employees of those parks, or did you think they were run by Disney and movie characters? Not to mention the suppliers of all the food stuffs/toys/souvenirs that are for sale in those parks. Or how about the employees at the hotels that serve the theme park customers? I think all of these people would beg to differ.

Disney Parks Vs Universal Parks

I visited Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and Kennedy Space Center in August 2008 and in my opinion Walt Disney World's parks were the best and much better than the other theme parks in Orlando. So it's no surprise why Disney has come out on top.

Universal is lacking in quality and memorable rides and shows and feels old. I didn't really enjoy it as it is not run as well as Disney and the atmosphere in the parks arent as great as the atmosphere in Disney parks. Universal parks felt some what disorganised and had the cheek to make people pay for faster waiting in line things whereas Disney's Fastpasses are free.

Disney appeals to all ages but Universal parks are aimed at teens and younger adults.

So in my opinion Walt Disney World will always beat the other parks in Florida in attendance.
