What Leonard Abess Jr. Said in 1987

Back to blog

Mr. Abess

A man who, given extraordinary success in life, committed an extraordinary of giving; caring for fellow man.

I wouldn't expect every 'boss' or business owner to do the same but just imagine if every 'boss' or 'company' had a bit of Mr. Abess' spirit...

Too many companies give lip service to their committment to their employees, with statements such as "our strength lies in our employees." Most people know when their company is truly committed to them. It doesn't take a hero like Mr. Abess. Small things can go a long way.

I know of ocmpanies which haven't given raises in years. Yes the times are hard, yet I see these same companies spending needlessly in other areas. Even a 10 cent raise and some movie tix (example only) given in a heartfelt way, would show appreciation. Typically companies that don't really seem to give a hoot about their human-resources make it obvious. Employees are rarely even thanked for a job well done.

So, here's to you, Mr. Abess, your greatest gift may not even be your incredible largesse, it may be encouraging other companies into caring for their employees in a real way.

I wish there were more people like Mr. Abess

Wow! Wonderful and generous, and most of all, appreciative of his employees.

We need more people like Mr. Abess. The word that comes to mind is Love.

I have worked all my life and found that there are few bosses who really care and

respect their employees. If a boss like Mr. Abess appreciates his workers, people can

do anything. It is the most important thing in work; appreciation and love.

Sadly, it is rare. Mr. Abess is a role-model for us all in seeing and

appreciating each other in very challenging times. Yes, to Mr. Abess and all people

who love and care about each other. There is still hope!

There are still some wonderful people in the World

Mr Abess,

I truly hope you are a christian because what you have done is very Christ like. The difference with what you have done and many others have done also is that you gave your millions without any fan fair. We've watched others who gave but before they have even done so they made sure all the media was lined up because they were promoting themselves. I am sure if your employees did not spill the bean we would not have known about this wonderful act of kindness. Mrs. Abess I truly hope that you and your wonderful wife both know and love the Lord so that the treasures you are building on earthe will also be built in heaven. You are truly a kind and humble man. As we watched you on TV, I can speak for all that watch the program that night our applaud was louder than al who was ubder the voice of the President that night. I saw that humbling look on your face as your eys said what was all the fuss about. Mr. Abess, I am glad the President called you out on that great act of kindness and yes, we need to make a big fuss over you because there's not much people like you in the world. We are greatful for the example that you have set for us. I don't have millions or even six figures but with the little that I have, I have learned that little becomes much as you place it in the Master's hand and therefore in my own small way I will follow your example. May the Lord richly bless you and your family abundantly. Keep sharing. You are a truly humble man.

OPENING MY MIND!

The story made me really look at myself and ask " what am i waiting for ". I have dreams and it's time I started making them goals. I am a giving person and I am planning on getting myself in a profession that will give me the opportunity to be able to give. Everyone needs to start looking at them self and push yourself harder to be in control of your life, your mark in your family history, how do you want people to remember you what will your legacy be.This is our day to make the change, only you create roads or bridges.

Thank you.

You think your actions should go unnoticed? In today's world and today's America, where the rape of the savings of most Americans is commonplace and apparently assisted by our government's ineptness, you are a hero to be noticed. Thank you. I wish we had more of you in the public eye and public service. Please tell me how it all went so wrong when your business seems to have gone in the right direction.
