I love his movies and all the work he has done. I can watch them over and over again. Obviously he is having some issues with something we all know. Even though he is making the choices that he is that can never take back all the good ones he has had. Go and try and do a music career, which one of the other stars that have tried this have had a big career unless they have started with all the above first.

I still love his acting, His movies have been an inspiration and great. Let him try something else. Just hope he does not go over the edge like his brother. I think someone should help him, not laugh at him so we do not lose another wonderful actor and human being......

Don't forget, this is the guy that watched his brother (River) die, and his mentor (Johnny Cash) die. There's got to be some residual bad feelings and depression lurking in that muddled brain of his...

Hope it's a ruse

Firstly, he is a talented actor and I hope this is just another brilliant performance, like his work in films like The Gladiator, ( he was stunning as the emperor Commodu, and his portrayal of Johnny Cash.

It was simply a coincidence that I caught his appearance last night on Letterman.

And I was a little confused at what was happening. Maybe it is real... Letterman seemed geniuningly annoyed.

He is either involved

1) in a well created stunt which is to make a documentary about an actor who pursues a career as a hip hop artists, or

2) he is in a downward spiral of drug or alcohol abuse.

If it is actually the latter wouldn't people in hollywood who can provide the support system needed, be rushing to his aid? But, instead another actor, Casey Affleck is running around with him filming this whole thing. It may just be all a ruse. The story will continue.

It was a put on. he fell out of charactor at the end and laughed at Davids joke, then went back to shake his hand ar the end

very funny as Letterman was obviously nervous incase it was for real

Anti-corporate behaviour

Pheonix is demonstrating anti-corporate behavior. Unsurprisingly, this will generate a negative reaction in the America of 2009. I appreciate what Pheonix is doing. Television media has become incredibly conformed, organized, and effective in disseminating sales pitches to an uncritical consumer culture. Pheonix attempted to halt this machine for just a brief moment so that we could feel a bit awkward about ourselves, and to question why we were watching this show in the first place. However, his performance is still a pale ghost of the almost forgotten interview that took place between Dick Cavett and the John Cassavetes gang. "Oh, what a talented, talented man he is to do that!" Duh. People said that about Cripsin Glover. Glover was clearly on acid (lsd), as anyone who has been through public school with their eyes open can tell you. This guy is probably low after coming down off a large cocaine binge.
