Target Layoffs Add to Toll

team leader head count

I overheard an STL (Store Manager) conference call that called for a reduction in the Team Leader head count. This conference call took place May 2009. In this call they called for the number of Team Leaders to drop from 15 to 12. They also discussed the means of reducing head counts. This seems to be a shady decision by a company that many team members have worked so hard to support.

Management, Rude and Crude.

I have also worked for Target as a district technician and I can say for certain I would never go back or recommend Target as a good place to work. Facilities Maintenance is treated like crap by the regional, group, district, and store management. There is no partnership between the "store side" and facilities maintenance. About half of the store managers were very nice however from the group directors and district managers they are nothing less then a bunch of know it all jack asses. What Target really needs to do is move out poor performers in store management and change their team culture, its just not working.

I will say that more nice people that work for Target then are poor managers. And I have worked with a great team in facilities maintenance, however Target management really needs to clean house, maybe it time to have one store manager for 2 stores. I heard they bonus half of the yearly salary if they make there yearly sales to expense numbers. Target needs to trim the "FAT". Just think how much money Target could save their investors and how “competitive" they could be, mmmmmm.

Employee

I too work for target and agree that this company has treated me the best of any that I have worked for. My managers are great, District and Corporate associates have always been good to us, and above all we (Target) respect our GUESTS (customers) and strive to please them everyday. I am sorry that anyone had a bad experience at a Target store, but sales are going down simply because people are unsure of the economy and do not have the extra to spend like they did in previous years. Locally, my store has actually seen an increase in sales since October of last year and sales are still going up.

Restaff TARGET guest relations and customer service!

It's about time, as long as the layoffs are with managers in stores and customer service, especially "guest relations" in MN and WVa offices. These are the departments that bring Target down by treating customers and staff so shabbily. Yes, quote me to the ones who make corporate decisions. If Target sales dropped, this is why!

target

I am an employee at target. It is the only company I have worked for that thanks you for your work, for coming in early or whatever you do. The store I come from is different from any workplace i have worked. i have been in retail for over 25 years. I am sad for anyone losing their job,but don't believe that it is a simple decision.

really?

I guess at this point I'd rather be treated like a dog and still have a job.

Target layoffs

I noticed the low stock at my local store last Sat. the 24th, so I asked the check out person about it who seemed to be a type of manager. She said "We're doing fine". Now a few days later layoffs are announced. I guess she was wrong. I have never seen the stores so deserted at all times of the day and week. I love Target and wish the best for the store through this tough time. Maybe our country needs to end shipping stuff from China so much though, whether we buy it at Walmart OR Target. The world is running low on energy and materials to make all that stuff, plus we need more jobs in the USA.

Target company

To add to the comments earlier about Taregt being a great company, is one of the most absolute truths that I know. I currently work for a Target DC but I started there as a lowly temp. From day one, employees there were very respectful, courtious and helpfull. It's not just the company as a whole nor is it in the policies and rules. It's the kind of ppl they bring in and in the way that not only just the meger employees but also the management and supervisors that instill a sense of belonging and teamwork that makes Target a great place to work. Even though I've only been employed with them for a year, everyone there treats me with kindness and respect, which is something of a rarity with some of the other sompanies I've worked for. I can proudly say that I really love working for Target.
