Are you kidding?

To the previous commenter that blames the government - this is what it means to live in a society. Rules keep order, otherwise, everyone and their brother would have an excuse not to follow the laws.

Do you really want some minimum-wage desk clerk in an obscure government office to make decisions about whose excuse is legitimate, who is really depressed and who is lying?

This guy blew well past the (very generous I would say) 30 day extension the govt was giving him and racked up quite a bill on a petty fine. He should have JUST PAID THE FINE.

BTW, the article didnt make clear: did his mental and family issues just keep him from paying the fine, or did they cause him to violate the law in the first place?

To paraphrase an old theme song: "Dont do the crime if you cant pay the fine"...

Typical...

I live in a low-rent area rife with individuals of a low-rent mentality. I've been assaulted, had rocks thrown through my windows and harassed by my neighbors for being white and wanting to live by the rules, and the best anyone - management, police, the city - says is "move". Were I to defend myself, I've been threatened with arrest.

Government no longer exists for the sake of the people or the geographic area they are supposed to represent. They exist strictly to stay in power and perpetuate that power. Law-abiding citizens, regardless of their abilities to cope with 'the system' have no chance when 'the system' is so stacked against them.

In our world of black and white, absolutes, one size fits all, no middle ground, if you're not with us you're a traitor and should be shot ideology, is it any wonder that the common man despairs at the callous disregard on the part of government at their individual plight?

America, where the star spangled banner waves over the land of the fee and the foreclosed homes of the brave...

Parking ticket leads to home foreclosure

Hopefully, this post will call attention to the story and some entity will come to the poor man's (literally, now) defense. He should have paid his bill, but sheesh...that, plus it looks like he has some mental issues, and HIS BROTHER STARTED OFF THIS WHOLE MESS!

I'm an only child. For once, I feel blessed about that!

PIGS

This is why they (the government) are PIGS! This is sick! The headline should read: "Bureaucrats and men in black dresses steal old man's house."
