Extreme Makeover Homes for Sale!

irresponsible show

Seems irresponsible to help a family start a new home and then to only have to sell it. How sad. Maybe Extreme Makeover should find someone to help the families budget their income, find ways to keep their homes and maybe, maybe even pay off their mortgages. How very sad to see families that have been given hope have it stripped away sending them back to lives of silent desperation. Could Extreme makeover build smaller homes that are just as nice so the taxes and utilities aren't so high??

me in washington

if extreme makeover decided to build three homes on the same budget, I would be happier. I mean, who needs four plasma screens in one house. I think those families deserve what they receive. But, ABC could do three times the good with the same budget. I'm sure the people who get these houses would be just as happy and greatfull with their houses completely remodeled and the mortgage paid.

that's all

Reality

I think it's a great thing that Extreme Home Makeover does every week for those families, but something I don't think America realizes is that those families have to pay property tax on the new house, extremely high utilities bills on the new house (because they are so big the bill can range from $400-$700/month) and sometimes the old mortgage on the house that was destroyed (because the mortgage wasn't destroyed along with it). I've read where a few families have foreclosed on their beautiful new homes because they couldn't afford to live there. So I can understand where one family would sell the new house. Medical bills, mortgages, existing bills don't go away just because they're on TV and because Ty Pennington decided they deserved a brand new house (which they do deserve and honestly alot more). Again, I think it's a wonderful thing, what the show is doing, but I can also understand if a family needs to sell the house in order to continue to take of their family.

to all selling houses

what nerve you have selling a house that was designed and given to you as a gift, your cheap stories you use just to get a new house and then sell it to go back to your ghetto lifestyle. hope you all rot.......

Just a couple thoughts to ponder.

1) If I was in financial distress and had a crappy house, I would volunteer for the TV industry to come build me a house I could not afford so that I could sell it and move to a nicer, smaller home than they built, but bigger home than I had house.

2) TV is for entertainment and dreaming. The show does that and gives us a wonderful story to go with it.

3) The sell of the home at an increased value will hopefully contribute to stimulating the economy somehow. The only problem is if someone is trying to sell the home at current neighborhood home values. If they would just sell it significantly under the market value, wouldn’t they still make a profit compared to what they would have if they sold their original crappy house?

4) When they sold their new home for a perceived loss, they would still be making a gain of what they didn’t have in the first place, the new people moving into the home would have a nicer bang for the buck for their family which is as deserving as anyones, and the economy in that area would have a boost from the home sell and the new family spending more money in the neighborhood that they saved from buying a more unreasonable expensive home.

5) As for all those “green” comments, I’m still an American, capitalist, and big dreamer, big spender, and like my big truck, like my air as cold as I can get it while your sweating, and I will continue to spend frivalously because I can. Enjoy your green environment in your squished up bumper cars and sitting as close to your fan as you can because your concerned about spending a couple bucks. I will continue to exercise my rights to enjoy life. You only live once and those that save end up leaving earth with as much in their pocket as those that spend it all. God bless American and my belief it will rebound as it always does.

makeover homes

My family of 6, 4 of whom are disabled, and one a disabled vet, could only wish we had our home back to have made over. Now I'm facing the reality of humanity and seeing that the families that have been given a chance at healthy living, are actually selling their homes. I have often sat and wished that my family even had a home such as those that were made over. I have Degenerative Disc Disease in my spine which will ultimately put me in a wheelchair. I do hope that it isn't before my youngest children, 10 and 15, are able to care for themselves. I volunteered on my city's rescue squad from age 16-28, putting in 48 hrs. most weeks. I was able to do that as I did not have to pay my family rent, so, my caring nature put my skills to good work, or so I felt. Later in life I found that I had been exposed to active TB and was treated for one year for it. I also believe that my spine degeneration was related to my work in Emergency Medical Technician work. I have no one to recommend my family for help, I've even had the local housing office in my county denied my housing, not giving me the chance to explain the reason for them to deny me. Now for the 18th time since 2000, I must change my address and pray that I am able to find someplace to stay while waiting on my housing that I was told to re-apply for. The right thing to do would have been to give me housing, and instead, rendered me ineligible for a year. I have had to move twice this year as I cannot afford rent. Due to SSI payments being so minimal, it is impossible to pay full rent. I have really struggled the past few years and wondered if my children would be better off in foster care where they can be provided for. I have been denied SSI for my youngest son and he has had physical and educational disabilities further making my situation to do nothing but wane. If there is anything that you have ideas about that could help my family , please contact me.

Blessings,

homemakeover

Hello my name is Deborah Drisdom. I watch your show on a regular basis. I had to stop for a very short time because i was crying so much over the well deserved families. I thank you for your extreme-kindness and acts of charity you do for the people. I thought i would put in a case for my daugther. Everyone thinks that there children are extrodinary, however i believe my daughter really is her name is Keisha James. Her story goes as follows: She is married, her husband Marc works everyday. Hasnt missed a day since i have known him. They have 6 children which is a lot of children to me since im an only child but of course they are my grands i love them dearly. Two of the children (boys) have autism. One doesnt speak at all they other parrots. Even thought they follow instructions pretty well for having this condition. Keisha is a stay at home Mom. Now i quess u say well thats not really a need for an extreme makeover, and i wouldnt either but my daughter called me today, and she says to me " Mom i had Kendell (her Oldest son) step on the mouses head to kill it because it was still wiggling" then he took it outside and fed it to the cats. So now it has become a game for the two oldest ones to do. They catch up to 9 mice a day just in the kitchen. This isnt including the other rooms they have 3 bedrooms one bath. The mice run through the house like its theres. One nite her Husband said to her (while we was on the phone)"Keisha the mouse got in the food how come u didnt cover the pot" she said I did" anyway ...They have one daughter. The house is so over crowded with toys and stuff. People are good to them at Christmas time. She tries to attend all the school meetings and the special classes for the 2 autist boys. 3 of the children are still in diapers. The 3 5 and 10 yr old are in diapers,The 3 yr old is getting it right about now but needs work on doing #2. The house is full of lead paint and the children have to get tested 1 a month. They think this catch a mouse thing is a normal came for children this is whats sad to me. Keisha never complains and just keeps on plugging away at each new task that arises. The tiolet runs down into the kitchen from the bathroom contaminated water then she cleans out all the cabinets and this can go on several times a week. It is the constantfilth at mice infestation that concerns me,as well as the lead paint which i believe caused a lot of there disabilites. They children range from 13 12 10 8 5 3. There health is of the essence of my contacting you. If they could have another 1/2 bathroom in, and the back of the house cleaned and rebuilt possibly sanitized, she would be so excited. She doesnt know i have written this letter or she would probably not speak to me. I would do more for her but i am very ill i suffer with asthma, diabetes,COPD,Fibramaylsia, bilateral neuropathy, Congestive Heart Failure, completely steriod dependent for at least 20yrs. Im good Please help her in some way if u can. Thanks for ur help.

selling your makeover home

I am hurt to think of how much blood, sweat, time, effort and love that must have been used to build a "DREAM HOME" for a family who needed it but now...wants to sell it! Man if i were so lucky as to have a house, never mind a house renovated for my family, i would live there as long as i could.

I dont think that it is fair that a family should lose the house because they cannot afford the new taxes. Did anyone ask the family what they could really afford before building? what can we do to help them? the others that are looking to sell their dream home to make a profit should have a "donation clause" that automatically gives a portion of the profits made from the sale of a DREAM MAKEOVER HOUSE be given to charity or to fund another makeover. Just a thought.

I'll be thinking of all the lucky families on your show and wish them well, as i sit here on my 4x4 balcony in Apt 1!

Cheers
