No, just paying the taxes on a home owned by another doesn't get you the home. Each state has a requirement of a certain number of years the unpaid taxes must "ripen" before being sold as a tax certificate to a 3rd party. And before a tax deed for the property can be issued to the 3rd party, a series of notices must be sent to all parties with an interest in the property -- owner, lender, lienholders, etc.

Paying taxes
If a senior does not pay the taxes on the exact date required, some local agencies have informed secret investors and they have paid the taxes unbeknown to the senior. I am not sure if that means eventually the home will go to those who paid the taxes, etc. I'd like that checked into.
