Employment Picture: Small Businesses Continue to Outperform

Back to blog

Lots of data, not much meaningful

ADP probably won't do it, being the pro-corporate corporate business that it is.

But what we really need to know is not just how many jobs we gained or lost, but how many dollars of payroll we gained or lost. The above seems to say that small businesses added 50,000 jobs last month while large ones eliminated 41,000 jobs, net gain, 9,000.

What happened to PAYROLL in that picture? Did we lay off 41 engineers at GM and get 50 new burger people at McDonald's?

Who knows?
