Deb Walden

I dream of taking her to a jail cell and make her open up all the returned business reply envelopes that we frazzled people get from her. There must be thousands and she needs to open each one up, look it over, perhaps in a year orm se she will seen them all. Now released to the general public for a flogging in Wilmington Delaware.

Thanks "Bill of MN" and "CreditCardJihad of MA"

I was quoted in the New York Times (January 30), Dr. Robert Lahm, and I gave the reporter the link to the lawsuit. Today, on my ChangeInTerms.com "protest site," a visitor sent me a comment about this matter being covered by KGO-TV San Francisco, CA, news. Chase has tried to "burn" a lot of people here, now we're all going to get together, and turn the tables on these thugs. As I said in mt post earlier today: "If Chase wants peace, it can issue a press release" (apologizing and making amends with individual account holders for its outrageous behavior). Best to you!

CHASE CREDIT CARD - $10..00 FEE PLUS 150% PAYMENT INCREASE

A credit card that was and currently is advertised as a no annual fee is now being charged $120 a year annual fee (only if you have a low interest for the life of the balance offer = False Advertising. If you want to avoid the $120.00 a year in fees and and 150% monthly payment increase all you have to do is accept their 7.99% interest rate = Bait and Switch. They misrepresented the terms of the low interest rate offer so consumers would borrow money from Chase rather than someone else = Unfair competition. There is a class action lawsuit now =

Chase's $10 fee

In 2004, Chase gave me 0% until paid in full. 0%!!! Someone at Chase must have thought that was a good idea at the time - or were banking on me continuting to use the card or miss a payment. Well, I’ve done neither - and have only paid the minimum of this card every year for the past 5 years. Why would I ever ever ever pay a penny more? They offerred me free money! The $10 fee with no real opt-out option makes me angry beyond words. I could easily pay the balance from savings - but I DON’T WANT TO! They made me the offer, and I followed the rules! Its the principle of the thing…

Unfortunately, at $10 per month and 0%, it is still a good deal.

Chase $10 Fee

Yesterday I discovered my first (and last) $10 fee from Chase and then called Chase and asked that my account be closed.

I had been a credit card customer of Chase since 1999 with no late payments.

If JP Morgan Chase wanted to alienate their best customers, they certainly found an effective way to do so.

Vote with your dollars and take your money to another financial institution.

BOYCOTT JP CHASE!

Take your $10 fee and shove it

Let's see...they just got $25 BILLION from the bailout...

How on earth can Chase simply change the rules in the middle of the game? I suggest we write to them and impose a $20 monthly "Disgruntled Customer Fee" on them, giving them the option to opt-out if they don't like it. Where in our credit card agreement does it say that they alone have the right to alter, modify, or change anything they want whenever they want? It's not in any agreement I can find, and after searching EVERY legal agreement on the Chase website, I can tell you with certainty that it's not there, either. This can't possibly be legal; they just assume that not enough people will complain if it's only $10, but you can bet if they picked a higher number, like $50 or $100 or $1,000 per month (hey, why not?), they'd be taken to court in three minutes flat. Who regulates these companies?? Obviously, no one.

After the same phone call runarounds that many of you have suffered (transferred from CSR Nicki Parker to "supervisor" Amber Ellinghouse who, after 5 minutes of fighting, finally transferred me to her "supervisor" Rebecca Johnson's voicemail; no return call, of course), I've decided that I'm sending in my payments in pennies, I'm calling their customer "service" center several times every day and wasting as much of their time and money as I possibly can. Those 800 phone calls aren't free to them! Let's keep caling, people!! Jam their lines, stuff their "business reply" envelopes with heavy paper and junk offers and mail them in, frustrate and anger their employees and let them know exactly how we feel. It's going to cost them no less than $50 per month to deal with me; I strongly suggest others follow along if we want to have an impact.

I've freakin' had it with these arrogant, greedy pigs. It's time for a consumer revolt. Write your congressmen, senators, President-elect Obama (that still sounds SO cool!!) the national and local media, and LET'S GET ON IT!!

My Response to Chase Card Services

The steps I have taken can be summarized as follows:

1) I have sent a certified letter to the CEO of Chase Card Services.

2) In the past few weeks, I have been developing a site: http://ChangeInTerms.com (where I have posted the aforementioned letter; see "About").

3) I have sent letters, faxes, and emails to Senators, advocacy organizations, the FTC, OCC, and the FED, and members of the media.

4) I have responded to blogs and forums, like this one.

To reiterate a point made on my site, one cannot really "change the terms" when dealing with credit card companies from a legal perspective, but one can change the terms under which he or she relates to these companies from a marketing perspective. From that latter perspective, I have only begun to fight. I've taken about all I can stand from this industry, and as the site's slogan suggests: "Now I'm Coming After You [credit card companies]."

If you are interested, you can visit the site for more information, but I am not just concerned for myself. I am an entrepreneurship professor, and one of my research areas is small businesses -- particularly "bootstrappers." These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy; they comprise the majority of all businesses; and, credit cards are a primary source of capital for a large percentage of small entrepreneurial firms. I have written numerous papers and even provided testimony before Congress on the subject of credit cards and small businesses.

Folks, I am afraid that this topic under discussion is going to lead to a "life and death struggle" should the credit card industry continue down the path being forged by Chase, relative to our collective interests and economic future.

Most of the fairly thin media coverage on this action by Chase repeats the basics of the changes, but not the repercussions. Nor do reports that I have seen address the outrageousness of these changes. Can you imagine what would happen of your automobile loan suddenly changed from $239/month to $589/month? No other industry has been allowed to be so incredibly arbitrary or unfettered in its ability to promise one thing, and then through "bait and switch" as well as other deceptive tactics, deliver something that is altogether different (and harmful to consumers and small businesses).

Chase $10 Monthly Account Fee

I also have 4 accounts with Chase and 3 balance transfers with rates at 2.99% or 3.99% and was given the option of paying them all off or accepting a new rate of 7.99% to avoid the fees. This is tantamount to breach of contract. Did they target only those with past AGREEMENTS that are currently below market? And who is providing the cash for them to be bailed out anyway! I suspect it is the "hard-working American families" that actually pay their bills and take all of their debts seriously.

I'm waiting for the Class Action lawsuit!
