The Detroit Bailout: Automaker CEOs Talking Out of Both Sides of Their Mouths

Back to blog

America's downfall is happening this very moment

The United States of America was orignally founded on very strong principals, its past leaders lead the way with this in mind, but unfortunately the opposite has happen instead, in the last 40 plus years, the rest of the civilised world has awaken to this very bad behaviour, its entire self condfidence has almost been destroyed , to recoup itself will take many decades to overcome, its the high price that any nation must pay for its salvation in the future to come.

No more bailouts

Corporation are catching on that they can get money from the government to "bail them out" because of their poor business practices. It's basically a "Get out of jail free" card for their poor management of the company and they're trying to take advantage of it.

Our nation can't afford to bail out these companies while the executives still get their million dollar bonuses for doing a lackluster job. What ever happened to having management responsible for continued poor profits? Whatever happened to bonuses based on performance? If they do get a bailout there should be strict terms that accompany it. No more executive bonuses. Executive pay cuts. Renegotiation of union terms. Money should go first to workers' retirement plans.

Great debate

Great comments, Matt. One question: what the hell is wrong with Gumby?

Corporate Catch 22

Excellent analysis, Matt. The Big Three have a credibility problem, and clearly their chances for a loan or bailout are looking poor.

Part of the problem is that the auto executives themselves seem to be the biggest part of the problem and don't realize it. They cut, they layoff, they promise, but they still take full salaries and benefits.

I know where I would start to reform the industry. From the top.

I repeat because ...

Those old stubborn remanents of capitalism are still rockheads .. I have no choice but to use my pick to hit on their heads until they split open ...

I USED to think Liberals Are Silly Nannies!!

I used to resent liberalism until I grow up older and wiser today. I looked back and realized that liberalism make our capitalsim work much better than left alone...

Capitalists Are Good Competitors But...

I am very proud of our American style capitalism because there is a constant injection of liberalism in there to grease up better and more responsible prosperity we are enjoying here in America! There is still so much naked capitalism still ongoing that are sorely in need of injection of liberalism.. It is like having an engine and adding a transmission to it in order to get you somewhere wonderful for all to benefit...

Liberals Makes Our Capitalists Better!

Liberals creates new markets that captialists would never dream of creating because of regulations that capitalists detest so much... Capitalists usually reacted negatively at first then see how they can make money anyway and capitulate almost every time.. Capitalists have false pride in thinking that they have all the answers to the problems and they usually run away from the problems every time they could not conceive of anything profitable to address the problems. Liberals win almost every time.. Yet, leaders bent on capitalism still insist that we should allow free market practices to take care of the problems that arise because the leaders tend to wish to be unassociated with undesirable and unprofitable problems...They left messes behind and run home..

Will retail industry disappear , too?

WalMart is America most successful retailer, but I predict that foreign importers will start thinking that they can make and sell goods for America as they will crush Staples, Costcos, Lowes, Home Depots, Macys, J C Penneys , and even restaurants, etcetera... America will still have convalescent hospitals left to run..
