Instead of the Tour, he should have tried racing/winning some other races (giro, Paris-Roubaix, Worlds again). Or.....How about the triple crown, Lance?

Lance Armstrong returns

I'm torn. How thrilling to see the great champion race again! But what if, at 37, he can't compete at the level he used to? But what if he can? How many times have people said he can't possibly win 2, or 3, or 4, 5, 6, and then 7! He knows his own body and it's limitations and is one of the most realistic athletes in evaluating himself. Still....he said he was retiring, and would never compete again. Plus, it would mess up Alberto Contador's chance at the 2009 Tour, not to mention Levi Leipheimer's. So, all in all, I don't think, as busy as he is with other things, that he will drop everthing and go hang with Bruyneel for 6 or 7 months out of the year for a dubious cycling comeback. I'm voting no, the rumors are wrong. No comeback for LA.

i am so glad lance is returning to cycling i really enjoy the tour but it is most exciting with lance. i am amazed with his life and what he has acheived in his life.

What a piece of crap article you linked to, Thecookie of FL. What in the world does making light of Lance's Cancer recovery have to do with anything Lance does in the future. I am sick and tired of people such as you eluding that Lance has somehow cheated in the past. He is the most highly tested athlete in the history of sport and has never failed a test. During his seven tour wins many, many others failed the same tests that Lance has passed, including when his then wife was in route to the hospital to have a child.

You try to compare Lance coming out of retirement to Mark Spitz? Mark was in dental school during and right after his final Olympics. If Mark was competing after he won the seven gold medals in Munich the crowds would have been there rooting for him.

Lance Armstrong would only come back if he felt he was competitive. Good Luck Lance and I cannot wait to watch you sipping the bubbly as you lock up number 8!

Comeback

I for one am ecstatic that Lance will be racing in the tour again this year. I have read argumnets from people who do not understand why he retired in the first place, but honestly I don't see why it matters. If racing again is something he wants to do then we should all count ourselves lucky that we will have at least four more chances to watch this amazing human being push himself to the furthest limits and make it look easy! I am a big fan of the Tour de France. I have watched it every year for the past 8 years.(I am only 25 - so that is a pretty significant chunk of my life). When Lance was racing it was so much fun to watch! It is still fun to watch and the competition field is much bigger, but it just doesn't have the same excitement to it. With the semi-recent stuggles that have plagued the cycling world it is wonderful that it has a bit of good news! I for one will be anxiously awaiting July 2009.
