Why Brad Pitt Might Be Working in The Next Cubicle

Good analogy and something to keep in mind

@D from Arkansas. LOL your comment cracked me up. I agree, it must have been a jolt for a star struck school girl to find a blog dealing with personal career development while Googling the latest Hollywood buzz and Pitt pic for Kay's "Wall O' Brad."

I further agree that if you are going to put forth the effort to publically bash the contrary opinion of someone on the internet, you should at least go the extra mile and use spell check. LOL

The post was a good one in my opinion. As an employee I've often been dumb founded by the undeserved attention others have received from management. As a manager I have had to deal with dumb founded employees and explain my perceived favoritism.

And I also agree that it does work both ways.

In defense of EHRL

@Kay from NY - Put down Tiger Beat, take the Brad posters off your wall, and join us in the real world.

Suzanne doesn't need me to defend her but I'm going to enjoy doing so anyway. I've read her blogs for the last year or so and I appreciate her points of view, whether or not I agree with her on every post.

There was no 'baiting' in her post. There was a direct and applicable tie in to the focus of the column. I'm sure it was a heartbreaker though, to be trolling around for Brad Pitt gossip and end up on a career blog. The agony!

Finally, Suzanne never referred to Brad as a jerk, or lazy. She was talking about co-worker Steve.

PS. It's 'loser', not 'looser."

Homewrecker

"makes you the 'LOOSER' of the office"

As opposed to the "tighter" of the office?

Read the whole thing. She's making a point.

And sorry, but a man who has an affair with another woman while he is still married is not "a fantastic guy."

You're half right

You're absolutely right that managers often can and do see qualities (good and bad) in their employees that the coworkers do not see.

On the other hand, there is a corollary to this. Co-workers often can and do see qualities(good and bad) that the manager does not see. Your analogy works both ways.

Case-in-point: I work with a fellow who is technically brilliant but has abominable people skills. Our co-workers often miss his genuine technical brilliance because he is so abrasive to work with. Our manager is almost clueless about the difficulties in working with this guy, and was genuinely surprised when a couple others went to complain. The manager sees high quality, high productivity output.

Suzie lucas is a PATHETIC blogger.

Using Brad Pitt's name in order to get more hits to your lackluster site makes you the 'LOOSER' of the office...you know?..the person who doesn't have enough talent to get the job on their own, so they pad their resume, or name drop...

By the looks of you, you are probably trying to work out some personal issue that you've had with men or your father by attacking public figures you've never met, and know NOTHING about, but I must say you do your readers a disservice.

Brad Pitt is far from "a jerk, or lazy, or grates on your nerves" type of guy...and if you listened to ANYONE that met him (including his ex wife) you would know that he is constantly lauded as being a "fantastic" guy. Not to mention the fact that he is the ONLY person of such high profile who has worked with architects to re-build Katrina, match 5 million of his OWN money to help the hurricane victims, and highlights the genocide in DARFUR. What exactly have YOU done lately but disparage people yo dont even know?

Besides his humanitarian efforts, Brad hasnt just played classic leading men or starred in 'block-busters' just for the paycheck, but he's instead made a myriad of movies that add something to the human dialog, and has been very successful in different character roles. I too never saw the attraction to his physiq, but as he's become a father and a philanthropist on the world stage,he's actually become more irresistible in my eyes...and i now 'get it'. People like you who try to belittle him based on some flimsy characature derived from tabloid lies reveal yourself to be the ones in need of some depth and character.

I can agree with this

as long as we believe that your manager is a "good" manager, that is, one worthy of respect for his/her ethics and a history of mostly good decisions.

If the guy who hired and retains "Brad Pitt" (in the cubicle next to you) is a manager of highly questionable quality, then you have every reason to expect that "your" budding Brad probably doesn't have unapparent "magic" that you somehow can't see.
