The Personal Branding Phenomenon

Back to blog

You forgot one thing, Steve

You said well-intending but misguided, ....you should have said young and inexperienced.

Somehow I don't think the true leaders are worrying about THEIR brand.

thanks for the comment, please visit www.whatwoulddadsay.com....ALL of you, I would like to hear more from each of of you.

Personal Branding

Personal branding seems to go hand in hand with social networking. Unfortunately I don't think either phenomenon is going away. Like you said, "too many will read only the highlights or bullet points." That may get them the job, but true success only comes through hard work and sacrifice like our parents always told us, in person and face to face not through an e-mail, text message or post on our facebook profile. :)

Branding...It goes deeper than this !

Personal branding is not an organic movement. It is born of well intending but misguided marketing folks. It will fizzle over time. The fad is built on the rotten foundation of "branding". The word brand is not really a verb at all but a noun. It is not some thing invented and forced fed but rather born and nurtured. It's not even mainly the name, logos, taglines or packages. It exists in the mind of the customer. It's a useful term when applied to products or services but has no place as a measure of anything regarding an individuals reputation or experience. There are plenty of adjectives for that. I for one dont want to be labeled a brand name. I am me, my name and my work and what I do speaks louder than what I say or anyone else says about me.

Oh yea...If I had Oprah's money, call me anything you want.

Personal Branding

Let's hope it's a fad.

Personal Branding Comment

I would think that your main point really captured what personal branding is:

"how you live and work will determine your reputation. Far better to build it than to market it. You will soon know what to do with it."

How very true. Thanks for the insight :)
