Good Point

"There are no substitutes for kindness, empathy, discretion, loyalty (both up and down), and humility---all while being task-focused."

Bravo! Very well put.

There are no substitutes for kindness, empathy, discretion, loyalty (both up and down), and humility---all while being task-focused.

It is possible, however,---and especially as you move up in some organizations---to find yourself being judged by people who schooled with Machiavelli and who have no appreciation at all for the kindness, empathy and loyalty down parts. There (if you seek to stay in such a place) form-over-substance is unfortunately the "suit" you have to wear. Executive hair helps. So does the Country Club.
