If You Can't Be Googled, Do You Exist?

The rest of the world

I really don't think the rest of the world cares, good luck in inflating your ego though

Oooh, Daniel David of NM

I should have mentioned that blogging works well for some fields and maybe less well for others.

If you are a writer of any kind, keeping a blog is a great sample of your work. Remember that old Bob Newhart episode where the woman who was looking for a job as a hair stylist always wore her hair in curlers (it was her "sample")?

It's like that.

Also if you are a Google or Microsoftie type, then blogging is considered cool and even normal.

I'm trying to think of what fields blogging would be bad for, bringing up the issues you mentioned,. Hmmmm. Would you really want to work for such a fearful, suspicious employer?

Thanks, almostgotit!

That's a good suggestion and I should have included it.

Get LinkedIn, too!

The other thing: set up a "LinkedIn" profile. Those Google pretty well, too (and don't require quite as much upkeep as a blog)

I don't exist. Not as *real me* anyway

My real name brings up a 65 year old artist, and my actual identity? I don't exist according to Google. Of course I haven't actually DONE anything that would help Google find me.

Now as Dataceptionist? I'm all over it ; )

Tell my kids?

eom. lol.

GL H of MN @ Jul 09, 2008 19:43:44 PM

Wow, yes....

....you are cool, G.L.! Right there on page one of a simple "G. L." search I am duly impressed.

Working Girl of WA @ Jul 09, 2008 16:17:27 PM

er.. IMAGINE.

chronic.individuality of SC @ Jul 09, 2008 14:23:55 PM

you say potato

i rather image there would be a large percentage of people who would take pride in the ability to NOT be easily found through the internet...

chronic.individuality of SC @ Jul 09, 2008 14:23:21 PM

Maybe. Maybe not.

The problem with blogging to attract employers is that if you say anything truthful, they probably won't want you. They didn't want to believe what you said. Or caught you in a flip-flop. Or thought you too opinionated and "independent". Or thought you a threat to security of proprietary infornation. Or thought you a threat to the boss's hierarchy.

If you want to "exist", be authentic. It's always been that way.
