Money Market Guarantee

Because the guarantee costs money (paid to the Treasury), and it is unlikely that any money market fund will ever collect on it, since that would mean that the fund has "broken the buck" and is going out of business, this will likely result in a nice little windfall for the government. The greater the windfall, the less taxes the government will need to collect to pay for everything else. The point of this was not to guarantee the investments of individual investors, but to stabalize a market that was in the middle of a "run on the bank." It just turned out that providing a guarantee was the most efficient way to do that. I'm not a big fan of the Administration, but this program had a hint of genious.

Reserve Funds

On october 16 we will get one month since we have all our money captured into the International Liquidity Fund from The Reserve. I dont understand how the US authorities speak about to restore the confidence in the markets without to do something to resolve this big problem that is affecting a lot of people around the world. This fund broke the one dollar as deep as $0.91 and has the money frozen. If the US Government really wants to give confindence to the common people, they must to help to return to the one dollar to this fund putting the diffrence od money, and delivering asap the money to the investors.

Tks,

I stand with Kevin

I have money in a Reserve Funds and have been waiting to see if I am going to get any of it at all back but if I don't I sure as don't want to pay for it twice...once as an investor and a second time as a taxpayer.

WHY GUARANTEE MONEY MARKETS?

Why should money market investors be given a guarantee, like bank depositors, when they invested in money market funds to obtain a higher rate of return than they could with a bank deposit. Risk v. Reward. So now the Tax U.S. taxpayers are guaranteeing the money market invesotors reward and taking away any risk. Who in thier right mind would guarantee a debt/invesment after the investment/loan was made? This is crazy!!! But is in following with the new concept of socializing losses while privatizing profits that has been undertaken by the U.S. Government.
