Obama to Permit States to Tighten Auto Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards

It will not end unless the people who want to keep their freedom stand up and say "NO!""

I'm a classic car owner. My cars run EFI, not carbs and they get awesome fuel mileage with emissions as low as I can get them. I care for the environment, I always did because I like fishing and hunting to help feed my family. but I don't tune my cars to run their best souly for the environment, I do it to be cheaper on fuel so I can still enjoy my cars. The classic/hobby cars out there do not produce as much deadly fumes as all of the other things on the road such as 18 wheelers that are spewing out black smoke throughout the complete gear range.

It's hard for me to stomach this guy being in office and stying in office as long as he has without being booted out. The logic side of me knows many possible ways he got into office even though the smart free-loving people here in America didn't want him anywhere near the white house, not even to do yard work. Here are a few possible ways he got in, 1) The whole election was rigged and most likely was. 2) There is the possability that we are all surrounded by the stupidest people on the planet (more true then one knows). It's most likely a combination of the 2.

His "change" is going to put a lot of us in the poor house and cause us to raise our families on the streets.

We are being forced (FORCED!!!!) to live like they want us to live. This is no way like the way they will live so keep that in mind. Look at that bird, hampster or ferret that your child has as a pet and imagine the simularities, we will be those animals unless we stand and refuse. Do you think for one minute that he will give up his gas drinking amored limo for an electric car?

This is a something for all of the people of color to think about. This guy wouldn't help his own family out of tight situations. He has no plans of helping anyone other then himself. BTW, I'm not white or black so this comment is not based on race, it's a general statement to hopefully make some people think.

Read the news, EVERYTHING i've read states that he will be in office for no less then 8 years. They talk like he's in office for good..... read people, read.....

Ask youself, would you like living in a cage? I for one have no plans of living that way...

The Detroit counter-spin lies have started

This Detroit counterpoints being rained down in “articles” by hired flaks were produced by the cabal of the board of the directors of the Big 3 under orders from the oil companies and the steel industry. Electric cars use no oil or steel so this group has organized for 50 years to keep electric cars from the market. They have full knowledge that oil, gasoline, benzene, BPH, etc. are the core causes of cancer yet will do anything to protect their political & cash stake. They are trying to scare the public. Their points are lies and spin. Give in to them and you doom every American to cancer, trillions of dollars of climate change losses and terrorism caused by connection to the middle east.

Arizona is not California, at least not yet

This emission law for Arizona is rediculous to consider. This tripe is an example of the leftist and their propencity to over-regulate. This law will punish some people, and thus is un-constitutional for both the US and Arizona.

Those with older cars will have to pay through the nose just to dive the car they own. It could be thousands of dollars, and some people will not be able to afford this.

I must protest against this law, and the sham of 'climate change'.

I thank God everyday for global warming because with no sun, our planet would be minus 5000 degrees below zero... a frozen rock in space.

If Arizona is going to turn into California like state I'm going to vomit.

Now that J. Napalatano is head of Home Land Security, which is a joke in itself, we can throw out the idea she and her cronies approved.

We are losing our minds if we let them get away with this crap.

I will HOPE the CHANGE will stay the hell out of my state.

Border States

I agree with Bob. Two standards on a national issue is not the way to go. Car buyers may purchase their car from a neighboring state - especially if the cost difference is as substantial as expected. The overall affect may actually cause the price for the 'higher standards' cars to rise (due to lower demand); and, the 'hoped for' better emissions will not materialize.

This is another example of 'something that sounds good' versus reality.

Dual Standard

What does Obama think will happen in 2016 when there are two distinct feul economy standards for cars in the US? States like California and Massachusetts will have 43 MPG standards while neighboring states like Nevada and New Hampshire will have the federal standard of about 33 MPG. Cars in California and Massachisetts will likely be smaller and cost about $5000 more per car (current extra cost of a true hybrid powertrain)than cars in neighboring states. Unless gasoline is 6-7 $/gallon, there will be no incentives for the public to buy the higher fuel ecomony cars the states will mandate. Car sales will fall dramatically and all auto companies operating in the US will be in financial trouble.

The government can force companies to build certain cars, but they can't forceconsumers to but them. It would be a better idea to have a single standard of 38 MPG than the two separate standards.
