300 pages? C'mon !!

hmmm... once a document gets to be 300 pages, shouldn't things be broken down into relavent packages? Not fair to sneak stuff in by just making the doc so fat no one wants to read it. Come on !!

For what the govt has spent on tromping thru the Middle East, they could've put a border all around the US, tightened security at ports AND given every homeowner a couple of solar panels. I want my solar panels & electric car... NOW, please.

coal mandate

California tried forcing a mandate on polluting cars but the auto industry sued them & the US Justice Dept sided w/ the automakers. Obviously someone bought someone off. Do a search for "who killed the electric car". Chevron now owns the tech rights to the battery that GM was to put in their electric car. Now they think we should buy their Volt in '09/'10.

We won't get off oil unless people restrict usage of gas-only cars & reduce electricity usage, refuse to buy anything but electric or hybrid vehicles, etc. Take advantage of rebates & incentives on solar panels - buying 1 a year if it means it's free/almost free. Solar water heaters too. There's still time to get them for 2008 !!

Consumers guide everything if they'll just stick together. Now, if we could just find out who voted for putting gas & oil into the stock market free-for-all & get them banned from holding any public office ..

Applause, but "concern"

Read it all, and am concerned - because I realise that unless it is somehow forbidden, the same "greed" which caused the need for the bailout will foster the use of unclean coal technology to produce electricity somewhere down the line.

Already the resort to filthy cheap and available coal in China is poluting our West Coast.

I remember the widespread use of coal in the USA prior to the Environmental Revolution in the 70's. Prohibition of unclean coal ought to be a clear mandate of any future legislation.

Good Move

These are worthwhile tax breaks if they encourage people to lessen their carbon footprint by adopting efficient means of transport such as smaller, more compact vehicles and electric vehicles. Producing more renewable and sustainable sources of electricity is key, and the government is right in promoting that.

Why?

So that everybody got his/her piece of the cake for their pet "get me reelected" projects to tell the constituents back home.

It's called in your face business as usual.
