4 Things Sarah Palin Believes About the Environment

Back to blog

It is beyond belief that McCain would chose a running mate that actually appears to be to the right of the Bush-Cheney Administration on natural resource issues.

At a time when we are reading about polar bears swimming for their lives in the Arctic Ocean, her state is suing the Bush Administration to remove polar bears from the endangered species list. What do you say about someone who does the bidding of Big Oil and other interests to the degree that she is willing to ignore global warming, polar bear extinction and sound science?

Revealing Palin interview

Sarah Palin appeared on the Charlie Rose program in October along with Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona. Ms. Palin appeared quite bright and articulate, but also somewhat naive and completely beholden to oil interests in the state of Alaska. In comparison to Ms. Napolitano she seemed a relative lightweight, more salesperson than competent administrator.

Disaster in the making

If these two are elected I fear for this country. McCain is losing it mentally - beginning dementia to judge from some of his recent public debacles - and anything were to happen to McCain (heart attack, total senility, apoplectic fit), we'll be stuck with a total beginner in charge, who is anti-environment and anti-choice - either way, the perfect Bush legacy. Lovely thought :-(

You know, I've always thought that the experience argument that McCain and others have raised about Obama was a legitimate one. And so for 18 months we've gotten to see Obama run a campaign, put together an organization, handle tough moments. And we have his time in the U.S. Senate, his trips overseas, and his many years in state politics of a major state as evidence of whether he is capable of being President. It's not a flippant argument and I think we've been wise to test Obama. And from my perspective he has past the test.

But now we have an incredible cynical move by McCain to nominate an apparently talented and dedicated woman, but one with not a day of foriegn policy experience, not one day of national government experience, not even a full term as a governor of a small state, and we only have ten weeks or so to figure out even who she is and what her stands are. Wasn't this the same John McCain that has so heavily attacked Obama for lacking experience? What gives?

Is it desperation, some ongoing fascination with ex-beauty contestants (both of his wives, same background), or just John McCain being out of the box and unpredictable. And I think actually that it is the latter and that sort of unpredictability, rashness, is in many ways more scary than the thought of this person with zero national experience being a heartbeat away from the oval office. Oh my.

Salmon, bears, caribou? Do they vote? Nah, didn't think so.

Greenies? Do they vote? Uh, some of them.

I trust that fact that she has actually been to these places and spends her free time in the outdoors. More of this country's urban environmentalists should spend more time visiting the places they aim to preserve. And more social liberals should spend their time among the many challenged groups in our society. Try driving a cab in the projects for a while to get a better understanding of how liberal social programs effect the poor.

Re;Palin

Sounds like she's environmentally-unfriendly. The only reason she was picked was because she's a woman and they want to get Hillary voters. And that angers me as a woman who voted for Hillary and was on the fence. Not anymore. After that inspiring Democratic convention and this pick, I'm for Obama all the way now.

It is a good pick. She understands environmental issues associated with drilling and the need to drill more than any of the green envirowhackos out there. While Barack Obama promises to be off of fossil fuels in 10 years (yeah, right), Sarah Palin believes in drilling in the near term until we develop the technologies to switch from oil to this new technology. Greenies wants us to ween ourselves off of oil, but offers nothing but hopes and dreams about what we will use in the process.

No wonder they buy into Obama's message of "change".
