I'd watch out in Mexico, Zen Budda (btw, I liked your post -- I'm very pro-American, pro-union but not so much pro-gun). I was in Cancun once and saw one of the young male workers deliberately cough into a serving pan in which food was to be served to the hotel guests. Granted, I didn't see him hock a loogey, but who knows what goes on that I didn't see.

How Us Senior Citizens Are Keeping The Economy Going.

We live in a retirement community. Our retirement health care benefits are being taken away from us.Meicare feels that if you have a diabetic sore that just doesn't heal you should just cut that potion of your body off (it's called non-palative care). We live 9 miles outside of town, and most of the people here were going into town at lest three times a week to shop simply because they were bored. Well, we decided that one couple should go once a week and do the shopping for everybody. Then everyday one couple should cook for the whole group. You cannot imagine how much we are saving. To take care of the people that were bored we formed an entertainment group and we play all over this town. now, you, ask, what do we do with all our spare money? We give it to the Kick-a-poo Indians in Eagle Pass, Texas!!

Buy American? Please tell me how!!

I sure am tired of all the 'buy american' idiots. For years the most american made auto was a Honda! ( Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler have most of their engines and transmissions made in Canada, Mexico, and other places outside the U.S.) This year, if you wanted a full sized pick-up at lease 80% american made, you bought a TOYOTA, made by UAW brothers in Texas.

SHOES: Don't get me started! Bought a pair of NewBalance a few weeks back! It came with a 12 page pamphlet explaining why they could 'legally' be called american made. Apparently, due to changes in U.S. laws if more than 80% of the 'value' (read as COST) is derived by U.S. labor, the product can be labeled MADE in THE USA. So if a pair of decent shoes take 3 chinese factory workers, earning 20 cents/hr, one hour to make, and 1 U.S. worker earning $12/hr, 30 minutes to put the laces in and glue on a label, then they are AMERICAN made. Get it?

GUNS: (Don't laugh, you may need one soon.) If a firearm reciever enters the country less than 70% complete, the importing firm can finish the remaining

30%+ and call it american made. WINCHESTER is owned by the FRENCH. The US army buys its M-16/M-4 rifles from FN (owned buy the Belgiums.)

CLOTHING: Unless you are buying ALL of your clothing from an ARMY SURPLUS store, you are not BUYING AMERICAN. Even then you have to be careful, as the D.o.D. outsouces quite a bit (see SHOES & GUNS.)

ELECTRONICS: Forget it! Even if it was assembled in the U.S., It has more foreign components than Tokyo Rose. It is absurd for some to use a COMPUTER to post BUY AMERICAN comments.

VACATIONS: Vacation in MEXICO. Your money will go further and its cleaner than L.A. or New York. If you take your family, the hotel will have fewer Mexicans per capita than Southern California.

Good Luck!

Amen to "Maybe we should share the blame"

You are right on. Americans used to be hardworking responsible people. Our word used to be our bond. If you could not pay cash, you did without.

Nibble...Nibble

"If I own it nobody can take it away from me."

Well, it will take them a little longer, anyway.

And they will probably say something nice to you when they tax you for being responsible.

Buy American & Vacation USA

The economy looks to the consumer to spend again? First off, buy AMERICAN goods in the market place & stores if you have a choice to do so. Secondly, you are the master of where you want to journey in this world. Start taking your vacations in the USA or fifty states to spend your money. We are outsourcing our production/manufacturing each year and then, going overseas to spend our vacations. This activity is wrong. We will never recover to a normal level in this economy; A change of thinking must happen to all of us as we look to a more secure future for our nation, families and children. Invest here, save for a rainy day, have a positive attitude and always thank God for what you have. Lastly, if you can volunteer and give your time to others, it will make your community better & improve the world.

Maybe we should share the blame

I'm sorry but when does common sense kick in here? Rick talks about banks allowing a 35% ratio but the consumer also has to take blame in this society. Savings rates have been going down as we have become driven to purchase more and more. Each individual that has spent entirely too much money on their credit cards, or that home equity line of credit has to share the blame. I don't understand when it became okay to blame others for your mistakes and pretend as though what you did was out of your control. If you make 35,000 per year and buy a 200,000 house the blame resides on YOU and the moron who gave you the loan and that is it. Grow up America and learn to take the blame.
