How the Auto Bailout Is Punishing Ford

Couldn't be further from the truth

What couldn't be further from the truth is that Honda, Toyota, Volvo etc are cars which don't need repairs. I own both a Honda and Toyota and that freakin Honda has cost me several thousand in the past 1 1/2 years. The Toyota has been recalled twice and has to be the worst mid-size suv I've ever owned. Meanwhile I kept an older GM 3/4 ton p/u as a tow vehicle for a boat and it has been the only just jump in and drive vehicle without concern I owned in the past 5 years. Regular wear and tear is one thing but for a car people swear by the Honda has not even been close to living up to its reputation. This is the second round of imports for me and it will be my last. I think I'll wander down to the local Ford dealer and forget support some American companies next time, Lord knows they need it now.

FORD-SUPER AUTOMATION

FORD HAS ONE OF THE WORLDS MOST MODERN SUPER AUTO PLANTS IN BRAZIL THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN, MANY OF THE PARTS LIKE DOORS, FENDERS, HOODS, ROOF PANELS, TRUNK LIDS, STAMPING PARTS, ENGINES, ECT ECT ECT ARE BUILT RIGHT THERE AT THE COMPLEX, THE GROUP OF PLANTS ARE ALL AT THE SAME SITE. WHERE MOST PLANTS SHIP THESE PARTS IN, AT THIS COMPLEX THEY ARE ALL MADE ON SITE, SAVING MILLIONS IN FREIGHT COST ALONE. THE PLANT IS SUPER AUTOMATED WITH MACHINES & ROBOTS THAT THE UAW WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW TO BE INSTALLED IN PLANTS IN THE USA. WANT TO KNOW WHY JOBS GO TO OTHER COUNTRIES, ASK THE UAW. FORD WOULD LOVE TO BUILD A COMPLEX LIKE THE ONE IN BRAZIL HERE IN THE USA, IT WOULD CUT OUT SHIPPING & PUT MORE AMERICANS TO WORK, BUT THE UAW SAYS NO, NOT UNLESS YOU PLAY BY OUR RULES, CONCESSIONS, CONCESSIONS, CONCESSIONS. SO WITH THE UAW RUNNING THE SHOW THE PEOPLE IN BRAZIL GET THE JOBS & AMERICANS GET THE SHAFT. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE FORD PLANT IN BRAZIL GO TO "YOU TUBE" & TYPE IN "FORD PLANT BRAZIL" WAKE UP PEOPLE-ITS A WHOLE NEW GLOBAL WORLD OUT THERE AND THEY ARE KICKING OUR TUSH????????????????????????????

Ford's accomplishments

My view on cars is that if you have to open the hood for a repair in the 1st 200,000 miles, then I don't want that car. I need reliability. Ford has been know as a Fix Or Repair Daily ride, while Volvo, Toyota and Honda have been known as Safe and Reliable rides.

But in 2009, it's actually FORD (surprised?) that wins the top reliability ratings and is noted among the "greenest" options. I'm impressed! It may take awhile for the reputation to catch up-- but the actual 2009 car is among the best in the world.

Nice going Ford.

Changing Times

We bought a new Ford a couple months back. I am truely impressed with the look, feel, and ride. Now, I may be biased because I've owned Fords my whole life and nary a problem with any of them. I suppose taking care of your ride is just as important as it's initial build quality.

And yes, perhaps Ford was saved by C4C but I doubt it. Just read the latest reviews from numerous sources and you will see great reviews. Ford's quality and dedication to making better cars over the last five years is well documented.

It is likely that Ford benefited more from the GM/Chrysler bailouts and bankruptcies than it did from from the C4C program. But I think there was more to it. They were insightful enough to position themselves so that they wouldn't need the bailout and avoid bankruptcy. This kind of thinking has helped their image and proves that it is possible to turn around bad practices.

I don't believe we are headed for Socialism in the purest sense. But to all those who keep crying about it: ANY GOVERNMENT PROGRAM THAT TAXES IT'S PEOPLE FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL is Socialist (Medicaid, Social Security, Welfare, etc.)

The same argument can be directed to those who support the union. Any organization that organizes people and demands a payment for their service to benefit the masses can also be considered Socialist. Indeed, the fundamental principle behind Socialist ideology is the unification of workers so that all workers gain equal compensation for the labor they provide, regardless of the difficulty...spreading the wealth so it were.

So, it does not make sense to bash the government for trying to fulfill its Constitutional obligation which is to protect and provide for it's citizens. And it doesn't make sense to bash the Capitalists who believe in the Darwinist idea that only the strong survive. And it certainly doesn't make sense to bash the auto industry for getting caught up in the contradictory idea of free enterprise with a unionized workforce.

WE have allowed this to happen. Throughout our history, we have made concessions so that we may succeed. The problem is, many people have forgotten that basic principle. Corporate execs got too greedy, government officials got too drunk with power, and pundits have had their way with the masses.

One cannot rely on what is blabbed on the news or internet. We must take responsibility for ourselves and find our own answers. We need to do the leg work and research the cars we buy, the politicians we elect, the stores we shop. Knowledge is power but only if it is earned through our own hard work and not the work of someone with an agenda.

" AUTO INDUSTRIES FAILURE "

We cant blame americans for wonting a better car . We can blame the government for letting them get hear so easily . The possitive note is that many are built in the U.S. now . The american auto industry raised their car prises to pay for their new pay scale . This includes auto industry whole work force . Auto industry never allowed the pay of everyday americans to match the pay . The everyday americans were left to chose from a nice house or a new car . What do you think most picked ? Think !!!! Car note $600 a month ! House note $800 a month ! Why is america bankrupt ? My job in the area I work is considered to be good pay @ $16.75 hour . What was auto industry pay $25.00 plus in 1995 according to my friends dad in a very poor state Mississippi . Why did the auto industry fall ? I wonder !!!!!

Maybe Ford, but no Chryslers and not GM

Fords are better but not the others yet. GM claims there cars are better than Honda, lets see them last for 300,000 miles, not just a few for all!

Biting the hand that feeds you!

The UAW rank and file have a long history of ignoring facts while biting the hand that feeds them. Their recent failure to ratify a new contract increases the odds against Ford's survival. When their jobs disappear I hope those who voted against the Company will remember the old union battle cry;" I don't work for Ford Motor Company, I work for the UAW".
